Its this rail: Dirty Bird Quad Rail Not bad, just not strictly speaking a proprietary Colt rail. |

Alright so I got one of these rifles and took a look at it. This is the Pinned and Welded 14.5" gun with the quad rail, not the older 16" one. Its a regular Government Profile barrel with a P&W flash hider that's identical to the one used on the 6920 SOCOM. Overall, a really nice little carbine for the money in my opinion. The Quad Rail is nice, there is zero play and its very lightweight. |

I just measured the overall chamber length of 3 different AR barrels to compare with my 16" and 14.5" 6920-EC barrels. I wanted to get some idea of the difference in the .223 REM barrel bullet jump as compared to the 5.56 jump. I used the Hornaday OAL gauge with a Hornaday 55gr BTFMJ bullet. Results: 14.5" Colt CR6920-EC: 2.350 .223 REM 16" Colt CR6920-EC: 2.350 .223 REM 16" Colt CR6920: 2.355 5.56 NATO 16" FN: 2.370 5.56 NATO 16" DD: 2.370 5.56 NATO Very little difference between the .223 and 5.56 Colt barrels. I can't tell you what this means as far as shooting 5.56 in the .223 EC rifles. I do know that some of my reloaded 5.56 rounds are hot and I show no over pressure signs after shooting in the EC rifles. |

Just got an email from Atlantic Firearms advertising some EU colts. One of the items is a 22LR version of the carbine that looks exactly like the railed version they are also selling. Only difference looks like a 22LR conversion kit minus the 223 bolt in the regular EU railed carbine. I sent Atlantic an email but am curious if this is how it came from Colt with its own model # and UPC or if is something AF created. Anyone have any info on these? https://atlanticfirearms.com/colt-carbine-22lr-european-model-quad-rail |

Anyone have any info on these? https://atlanticfirearms.com/colt-carbine-22lr-european-model-quad-rail I am confident that the carbine did not come from the factory in the .22lr configuration. My belief is that Atlantic Firearms installed the .22lr conversions themselves in a effort to improve sales of the base CR6920-EC 14.5" p/w. Colt has not made, and does not make, a .22lr factory rifle. |

You might be able to remove the 22LR mag well adapter and bolt, then install a .223/556 bcg and be good to go. Have both. I thought about doing this, since the 22 is $30.00 bucks cheaper. I was to lazy to check with Atlantic Firearms. I ordered the last .223 this morning and it has already shipped. |

The .22lr magazines that they are using in the image are the same dimensions as a milspec aluminum magazine. There isn't any type of magwell adapter. Atlantic Firearms sell extra .22lr magazines on the website. Drop in a .223/5.56 bolt carrier group and a regular magazine and you are good to go. The barrel is the same .223 barrel as the 16" carbines except that it is the 14.5" p/w version. |

They've got 6721s, LE trade-ins. |

FWIW, I did get a response to my inquery although they really didn’t answer my question, which seems shady and is disappointing. I wrote: Does this come from colt as a 22LR or did you add a 22 conversion kit to an EU model and remove the 223 bolt? Does the box show a different model number from Colt along with UPC on the label? Thanks They responded: It comes to us as a 22LR rifle. |

If the conversion bolt is not marked with thr usual extra EU markings my guess it that was put together. Not sure a gun marked 223 on barrel can be imported as .22lr. Especially if all its needed to convert back to 223/556 is just a BCG. Is the gas port/gas tube functional? |

The availability of the Colt .223 European carbines brought up the old debate about whether or not 5.56mm can be fired in .223 chambers. Knowing that there is a difference between the cartridges, I always discourage people from doing it. There are still folks that demand that there is no difference. It simply is not true that .223 and 5.56 are the same. The document that I have attached that Federal / Speer published. Difference between .223 and 5.56mm cartridges from Federal Premium / Speer ammunition Attached File |

It’s still chambered for 5.56 Another example is my surplus M16A1 converted to SA… the barrel did not have the caliber marking on the barrel from the factory (just C MP Chrome Bore) so the proof house added “.223 REM”… it still chambered for 5.56. Same story for my Galil.. 223Rem added on the barrel but still chambered for 5.56. The real news here is the SN added to the upper. Yes, I would bet that the chamber is really 5.56 and what makes its unique is the upper serial markings. It may be a requirement to mark them .223 even when they are 5.56. Apparently, Germany requires this for civilian market firearms like the Haenel CR223. Not sure about other European countries. |

Not sure about other European countries. EU is trying to unify guns laws for the most part. The 223 chambering is a recent thing.. just a few years iirc. It’s a weird situation because 5.56 marked guns are imported regularly… And even 223 marked guns are in fact 5.56 |
