I'm going to use one of their whole build kits complete with one of their upper built assemblies.

The it's pretty safe to say you'll be just fine.  Just be sure they provide the longer AR15 carbine H buffer in the kit with the 27 coil 308 spring.  I'm pretty sure that by now they are finally getting that right after the initial fubars.

Guys I have a question and maybe it has been answered , but what would be a good set of  drop in rails for the 16" carbine length upper?

If anyone cares, I think I've found the perfect end plate for the thicker buffer tube threads.

For those who wish to know.  The UTG Pro Super Slim 308 HG for S&W M&P10/DPMS LR-308 Low Profile (MTU020SSC)  is a perfect match to the PA10 upper and the barrel nut threads are PA10 upper correct.  And, they look dang good on there too.  I got a 13" recently off DVOR.com for $109 and 9.99 shipping.  It's going to look great on the 260 Rem or 7mm-08 upper I plan to build soon.  Much lighter weight and slimmer than the honkin'  Midwest HG PSA puts on their uppers.

Just got my LBK and have installed it. Same issues as previously stated. My bolt catch is so tight that the spring under the detent doesn't have the power to keep it down. The paddle on the bolt catch also touches the upper receiver. I'll have to remove it and do since filing work.

Glad that PSA uses their customers to beta test their poor designs.

Now trying to decide on a 2 stage trigger. I'm sure that'll run into issues of it's own with bcg clearance.

I just separated the upper and lower and used my Dremel to just take some off the upper portion of the bolt catch release. Then repainted it. Works great now.

Tried putting a Rock River 2 stage national match trigger in my PA-10 lower but no dice. It got hung up on the bcg after pulling the charging handle back about 1/3 of the way.

Called Rock River today to explain the situation and he told me to try it in a standard AR-15 lower. I had already done that and told him it worked fine. He said as long as it works in an AR-15 lower there was nothing he could do. I explained that Geissele was allowing customers to send in their triggers to be modified to fit the PSA PA-10 lowers. He said Rock River wouldn't be doing that.

Do any of you guys know if a CMC 2 stage will work or are all 2 stage triggers going to run into this issue?

Wish PSA would have had a disclaimer on their website stating that only milspec triggers work in their lowers.

Yes.  But I'm not certain about the dust cover and forward assist since I bought mine from PSA just to be sure of proper application.  You may want to wait til those are available from PSA to make sure. Just remember that any FF handguard you get must be a DPMS style low profile HG.  I used a UTG PRO MTU020SSC13" Super Slim Free Float on my recent build and the complete PA10 308 upper I bought had a Midwest DPMS style low profile on it.  I verified with Midwest that was what they have been shipping out to PSA for their PA10 uppers. Standard DPMS style barrel nut. I bought a standard DPMS style BCG from AIM with forward assist serrations and it fit and works perfectly.  Charging handle is a standard DPMS LR308 handle, gas tube DPMS style, any standard gas block according to your gas block area size .750, etc.

I had the same problem and Rock River was no help to me either.  http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_2_38/258156_Use_Of_RRA_NM_Two_Stage_Trigger_In_A_PA10.html

I took my RRA hammer to a grinder. Very little material needed to be removed for the bolt to smoothly go over the hammer. For added reassurance, I've ordered a wolff extra power hammer spring. If I run into any issues down the road, oh well. It's an inexpensive/mediocre trigger that I wouldn't lose any sleep over. I would then just buy a Geissele and send it in for them to do the grind work and send back.

When I called PSA customer service to ask why there wasn't a disclaimer on their website, a lady with a very thick urban accent (almost asked to be transfered just so I could understand the person I was talking to) said that since it's a PSA brand rifle they will only guarantee it to work with PSA parts. Great customer service there

I had the same issues with mine using Factory Winchester Super X. They sent me a return label and they received it Thursday the 22nd. No word yet. But I did not expect word this soon either. I have the 16" complete upper with stainless barrel and MI 15" rail. Bolt would not fully close, Bolt was smeared with brass, Would not hold open, peened the soft tip ammo over when trying to chamber a round. Same issues others have been having that I have read on many forums. My upper fit and finish seemed really good. I hope they can get it right and come back working as it should. I want to like it. It just makes me nervous with all the problems I have read about.

I really like PSA, I was about to get a PSA lower today, but the mere fact that building one is like rolling the dice. PSA can you guys please post a FAQ or an information section regarding known parts that work, or can we sticky a thread in here that people can post which parts do and do not work. Especially seeing how all the AR10 parts are always out of stock on the PSA site.

They've been asked over and over but it ain't gonna' happen.  All the info you want is posted here.  You just have to search for it.  Be sure you read this thread too: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_2_301/254438_PA10_buffer_length_problem.html because the info is critical.

If you get a PSA lower you MUST get a PSA LPK for the PA10.  No other manufacturer's LPK will have the proprietary parts you need to build the lower....no one else.  Takedown and pivot pins are different, bolt catch is different, bolt catch mounting is different (roll pin), mag catch is different, buffer tube and buffer are different (but other options can be used), some enhanced triggers can't be used without modifications.  Buy a PSA PA10 LPK with an enhanced ALG trigger.  It's the only way to know for sure you have the right parts.  Buy elsewhere and it's a given you won't.  I guarantee it.  Don't ask how I know.  IM me if you want the particulars.  If you think you are going to use someone else's upper on a PSA PA10 lower you may want to rethink that also.  Most are not compatible.  If you want a PA10, buy a PA10.  If you want a PA10/DPMS/AR10 mix...it's a crap shoot and you need to do a ton of further research before you waste a bunch of money on parts that won't fit together.  Welcome to the AR10 platform world.  It's a bottomless and confusing pit.

I don't find the RRA triggers on any of my rifles a mediocre trigger.  Fact is, I find they an excellent trigger for the price. They may not have the longevity of a Geissele (so some say) but, so far, I have about 2K shots fired with my squirrel killing 223 machine, with one in It, and haven't felt or observed any evidence of excessive wear or any change in function.  I do know, at today's prices I could buy almost 3 RRA NM triggers for the price of one Geissele.

You should have no trouble after grinding the hammer off a bit.  As far as primer strikes, I put JP light weight springs in my ALG enhanced trigger, which reduced trigger pull to 5#, and I'm still getting very strong firing pin strikes on all my primers.  I haven't seen any difference in those compared to the strikes with the standard ALG springs. So far, no problems with LC mil spec 308 ammo, other commercial ammo or my reloads.  RRA did mention to me a possible problem if you took so much material off the hammer that you effected the heat treated area.  But, if it took just a small amount I can't imagine it would.  I may have to buy another RRA trigger, do the mod and try it again.  I'm not a fan of single stage triggers on my hunting AR's even though the ALG QMS is actually pretty nice with the JP yellow springs in it.

Any AR15 grip will work.  The only issue is that one with a rear beavertail will not fit flush against the receiver but, that's the case with any DPMS style lower.  If that's the complaint it's a universal problem only one of these will solve:  http://www.midwayusa.com/product/2319140625/magpul-pistol-grip-type-2-kit-miad-gen-11-ar-10-lr-308?cm_vc=ProductFinding

Otherwise any other standard AR15 grip will fit.  The one they supply with their LPK is a standard AR15 grip.  But any Magpul grip without the beavertail and it should fit without a problem.

In addition to what lapriester recommended, you can use that Magpul grip you have then also get one of these ERGO Grip Spacerto cover the gap.

I have a couple of questions:

1) Regarding  the cam pin of the PSA PA10 308 PHOSPHATE BCG. Usually you have to rotate the cam pin 90 degrees after inserting it through the Bolt Carrier opening and into the Bolt. But I cannot do that with the cam pin on this BCG otherwise the firing pin would not go through. Does anybody else have this BCG and is the flat bar on top of the Cam Pin inline with the Bolt Carrier? Not sure if this was by design or if my cam pin hole was positioned incorrectly.

2) Does anybody know if the BCM AR308 Charging Handle Mod 3 is compatible with the PSA PA10 upper?

Appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

#1 - Depending on where you are located in IL, I'd be willing to let you try my BCG if you are local to me.
#2 - I am using that charging handle in my PSA PA10 upper, it will work just fine.

Someone please tell me this is a typo, that's a BIG increase from what they used to be.

That's the ballpark they started out at, when PSA first released complete uppers

Still doesn't make sense when the entire rifle with the same upper costs the same.

Thanks!

My cam pin was the same on my nitride 308 bcg and yes, the BCM 7.62 charging handle will work.

1) That is how they and all DPMS style BCG's are designed.  Not the same animal as an AR15.
2)  Any BCM AR308 charging handle will work.

Also got a geissele high speed DMR coming in this week I wanted to install in this lower. What kind of nightmare am I gonna run into?

Thanks

Got my PA-10 lower in. Says Caliber .308, serial 00068XX. Is there any way to tell if this is the theoretical newer lower that has the correct FCG hole placements so that triggers like the Geissele SSA-E would work without modification?

I know I could always try it first, but doesn't hurt to ask as it would saving me some time and effort.

I got my lower a couple weeks ago. Im honestly thinking we got the newer ones. I haven't gotton my geiselle in yet to try it but I did install a mag release, and bolt catch from a standard ar parts kit with no trouble whatsoever. The bolt catch doesnt scratch the upper on bolt release at all and feels quiet good.

I still have some time to go before I can test the SSA-E in it (waiting to get a few more parts then cerakoting). I'll give it a try ,and worst case it looks like I can even make the hammer modification without removing the FCG from the lower. Geissele sent me over the doc showing the area that needs to be ground down a bit.

Some additional info I've found out with this PA-10 build...

The DPMS Samson keymod Evolution handguard's anti-rotation ears by no means mate with the PA-10 upper receiver. I'm going to have to grind them quite a bit to get them to fit, even to the point of removing them all together. Samson tells me I shouldn't have a problem with the handguard rotating even when just relying on the compression fitting.

Any chance you could PM me a copy of that document that Geseille sent you? I might be in the same boat as you. Yeah after reading through this thread I went with the MI SS handguards, price was good and they look real nice. I have been finding this thread to be a great help with this build. lol

Anybody using a non-PSA bcg in their build? I'd like to keep a second bcg on hand as mine is still with Palmetto awaiting repair and has spent more time at PSA over the past 2 months than it has in my rifle. I was looking at the NiB 308 bcg from AIM but looks like it's sold out.
