I purchased a flat top M4 style upper back around 2006 and I just noticed it did not come with an F marked fsb. Did these old uppers come with the extended front sight post or will I need to buy one in order to use a buis?

You're good to go.
Different forging house for the front sight housing which didn't use the "F" on their forging, even though they are"F" height.
