Hello, I hope you don't mind a question about the old BAR-10 that you made for Bushmaster all those years ago.
Specifically, I was wondering if I can put the new UBR-2 stock on the rifle. As you know, the new UBR-2 uses an A5 receiver extension, but I'm not sure that it is long enough to accommodate the long bolt carrier of the BAR-10. If you think that the UBR-2 will work, what spring and buffer do you recommend for a safe, reliable operation of the rifle with the UBR-2 installed? |

The BAR-10 should utilize one of two extensions...a product-specific rifle extension, with the lAR-8 buffer and spring, or th eLAR-8 specific long carbine extension with th eLAR-8 CAR action spring and any number of CAR-length buffers. This should hold true whether the rifle has a 16" or 20" upper on it. The CAR tube is extra long to accommodate the carrier throw, and the rifle extension is externally identical to a 223 rifle extension, but is constructed differently to accommodate the 308.
I really haven't followed the generational changes/developments in Magpul stocks, and I'm not familiar enough with the extension you called out to comment if there is some way to make it compatible with the BAR-10/BM308/ LAR-8's recoil systems. Sorry. Steve/RRA |

Steve, thank you for taking the time to answer my question. It occurs to me that I can't expect you to know every stock and receiver extension out there. So maybe I can investigate this myself by calling MagPul.
Is this simply a matter of finding the extension with sufficient internal length to accommodate the BAR10 bolt carrier? If so, what is the necessary internal length? I'll check with MagPul to see if their UBR Gen2 stock's A5 receiver extension meets this minimum internal length requirement. |
