Fuzzy...
No. Only the AR 10 LITE 9.0 (Midlength) will work. Try to get it from DD and not RRA they are out of stock right now but keep your eye on DD's website http://www.danieldefense.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=21 As for everyone else, my LAR-8 is on gun broker right now. |
|
The LAR-8 is starting to trickle out here and there. I have seen them on gunbroker and some similar sites.
Not to start a pissing match but I have owned (SOLD THEM) 5 DSA FAL's in the last 7 years. They were all fussy and never really ran what I would call 100%. This does not mean that such an animal is not out there. I liked them all but that always bothered me. Just my experience with DSA. I also have owned an M1a and Hk91 and PTR91 and Armalite AR10. They all have their good and bad points. Sold them all when I decided to stick with .308 in bolt guns. I always wanted the RRA LAR-8 but never had the chance to get one until recently. The AR type platform is the most comfortable for me to shoot next to the M1a but the AR types IMHO are the easiest platform to mate optics with. I snagged the LAR-8 because I am a fan or RRA products and I am also a lefty so the LAR-8 was a good fit for me. I had easy access to FAL mags so again that helped my choice. If I was waiting 3+ years I would be pissed also but I got lucky. Could be worse you could still be waitng for a Shrike or an honest politician. |

The only models Reported so far is the one and only mid length version. The standard A2 and A4 versions and the Varmint A4 versions have not yet made it to market and RRA is being tight lipped about when those models are coming out. I am sorry to be an arse about this but I am tired of hearing that RRA IS producing LAR-8s, when it is only producing one of the several models announced and posted on the website. What most of the rest of us are waiting for are the models or versions that have not yet been released or acknowledged by RRA to be in production, namely the standard A2 and A4 versions and the varmint A4 version. If I am wrong please make my day by showing me where I am wrong on this. |

SWEET!!! That is good news. I don't think I have seen a standard A-4 yet, but they have to be close as the only difference is the barrel and the hand guards.
Forrest, I believe you have an A2 on order... I don't know if those will ever come out. I'm betting that 98% of the orders (or more) are for the for the A4's. |

I have a standard A2 from February 15,2006, and a standard A4 from April 2,2008... The rumor is that both Varmint and standard A4s are being shipped to fill 2006 orders right now. I'd certainly be willing to swap my A2 and A4 orders to actually see one of these rifles in my hot little hands. I guess that we'll see what we'll see... Forrest |

I know how you guys feel. I ordered a mid-length A2 in 11/15/2008. I will problaby not see this rifle until late this year or next year. I think Rock River should have been like LMT and stop on the pre-orders until they get the production line going and catchup on the backorders. Oh well. Just a thought

Devin,
You fail to grasp the situation.
Not even your dealer could get what Forrest, or I, have on order because RRA chose to roll out one varient at a time rather than fill orders in some sense of a chronological order. There are 5 distinct varients of the LAR-8. Only 2 are confirmed in production, the mid-length A4 and the Varmint. If I recall correctly, Forrest has a standard (20") A2 and a standard A4 on order. I have the later on order. If either of us had wanted a 16" or 26" barreled 7.62X51 AR, we could have one now too, but we don't. That is our issue with RRA. I'm sure Forrest is as happy that you have your 16" LAR-8s as I am. If there is an up side, during this waiting period, I have added a custom 6.8 SPC upper (on a RRA lower) and have another 6.8 upper on order. "Time waits for no one" !!!!!!! Bullseye_10x |

There are a lot of people seeking semi-auto precision rifles right now and this makes a great option for those who don't want an Armalite or DPMS. |

Forrest: this guy appears to have the real story. Check out Gun Broker. There is a 20" HBAR rifle listed. I had a hard time telling by the pictures until I looked at the hand guard. It is definately longer than the 16" (I simply counted the number of molded ridges) which leads me to believe it really is 20". I'm not sure what the heck is going on at the RRA factory, but suddenly they seem to be shipping a lot of .308 rifles. I got a call from a dealer this week who I ordered from not long ago... my new 16" is in. The number of Varmint models that are showing up also is a clue that the flood gate may be opening. Whatever they did appears to be working! Congrats Steve and team! |

Just to be clear, I didn't state the listed gun was an A2; I stated it was a 20" rifle. Here's a link: LINK It is listed as an A2 but is obviously not (from pictures). Nonetheless, take a look and if I'm wrong about the 20" barrel, let me know why you think so. The buttstock doesn't make it an A2 does it? I thought that was based on the carry handle/sight system vs. top rail. If I'm wrong, educate me. I'm often wrong but am willing to learn |

Usually when you're talking about RRA rifles, A2 does refer to the carry handle receiver and A4 does refer to the flattop receiver...
However, the A2 buttstock can be installed on either receiver (and the RRA standard 20inch A4 rifle is sold with an A2 buttstock. It does get confusing, doesn't it...? RRA is shipping A4 receivered (flattop) rifles with both the varmint length barrels and the standard 20 inch barrel. Unfortunately for me, my order for a standard 20 inch A4 rifle was placed on April 2, 2008 (a little over a year ago). It's the standard A2 that goes back to February 15, 2006. So I'll still have to wait awhile, since I'm sure that it'll take RRA a while to work up to my 2008 order. Who knows about the standard A2 receivered ones... I should mention that we also have had midlength LAR-8s on order for several months now and we haven't seen any of those yet either... Forrest |

Forrest Boy, I guess you are...... Everyone else is posting how they've given up on RRA, whether it's LAR-8's or LAR-15's or whatever, and then posting how they've gone with someone else...... But wait a minute, I see the same postings, not necessarily the same people, saying the same things on the other manufacturers boards. Hmmm....... |

Forrest Look on the upside Forrest, at least the LAR-8 exists, and it works even with those darn FAL mags...contrary to what all those people said when Bushmaster was marketing it. For me, I'm waiting for the upgrade parts to turn my BM into an LAR - 8. |

Forrest What's RRA's reply when you tell them you have been waiting 1239 days? Don't they think is ridiculous. Is it to say one of these rifles have not been produced in 1200+ days? I find that ridiculous. Something is amiss.. |

Well, a little update...
On 22JUL09, RRA called the shop to let us know that they were almost ready to ship a mid-length that we'd had on order for well over a year. They wanted to know whether we still wanted it. Of course, we said, "Hell, yes..." I then took the opportunity to ask about the standard A2 that I've had on order since 15FEB2006. I was told that no one knew when A2s might be shipping, or even that A2s would ever be shipping. The person who I talked to recommended that I convert the order to an A4 if I ever wanted to see it... So, of course, I said, "Hell, yes, convert that sucker." That was towards the end of the day on Wednesday, JUL22... On Friday morning, JUL24, RRA called to say that the converted order had been shipped. I then asked about the standard A4 that I've had on order since 02APR2008, and was told that they'd probably be getting to that one in about a week. I told them to go ahead and ship it without bothering to call again and asking for permission. I also ordered another standard LAR-8A2, hoping that they'd eventually be getting the A2s straightened out... My standard (20inch) LAR-8A4 arrived on Wednesday, 29JUL... The rifle displays the quality of manufacture that I've come to expect from RRA, and I'm quite happy with what I received from them. Of course, it'll be a little while before I actually shoot it because I have to decide what sights to put on it... The mid-length (16inch, CAR stock) arrived yesterday (and our customer ran right over to pick it up as you might expext My point is that it looks like RRA is finally getting fair numbers of these rifles into the distribution loop. I'm looking forward to the other standard A4 and, eventually, the standard A2... Forrest |

Great News Forrest. Now it will be interesting to see what happens with my 20" A4. I ordered it at the same time you ordered yours, actually a day or two before. I ordered it thru RB Precision and I confirmed that order with them about 2 months ago. I may give them a day or two and then e-mail Krista to see if they have heard anything from RRA.
