I have been wanting to pick up a stripped SOCOM barrel for awhile and finally found one at a good price from a vendor that tends to always get Colt stuff. It was only $250. Other vendors were either out of stock or were more expensive. In looking over the barrel, I noticed there is no date of manufacture, which is something I haven’t seen before. There is a also a nick on one of the locking lugs, which is not a biggy and better than having the dremel job Colt did on some rifles there for awhile.  As long as the barrel shoots as well as other SOCOM barrels I have seen, it’s a non-issue, but it still irks me.  On another note, I'm looking at these gas blocks: Triarc Easy Pin GB, SLR Micro GB, or FCD GB . Any thoughts on the above gas blocks? I'm kinda leaning toward the TRIARC GB. I'll probably go with Retro Arms Works to have him re-barrel the upper I'm gonna send, install whatever GB I decide to go with and do the pin and weld with a standard A2 FS and a spacer. Last question: What FF rail would you guys recommend for an upper using this barrel? I pretty much live in the past with two of my rifles using Centurion Arms C4 FF rails (clamp onto the standard barrel nut) and a DD Omega () that I use on my Reece-ish 16" build. I have an out of production 12" EMR V3 MLOK that I was gonna use on that wanna-be Recce build, but now feel that the ALG would be better off on the SOCOM upper build. I am out of the loop when it comes to the newest FF rails, so some constructive feedback would be appreciated. I know Geiselle is the the current hotness, but I want something that isn't gonna be too heavy and not overly expensive. The only thing I will be attaching will be a flashlight. I don't live in a suppressor friendly state and don't have NODS, so I will not be mounting any IR laser units. I also don't want a rail longer than 12". These look like something I would consider, but they are shorter than what I am looking for: 10.5" Super Modular MK4 or this one 10" Super Modular Rail MK4 Federal Just to give you an idea at what I was looking at: 11.5 " CMR MLOK 5.56 Rail for $227, but that is out of stock. Would be nice to see Centurion add steel inserts to the QD sling swivels locations at the rear of their rails a la Geiselle. Im a big Centurion fan… have been using their C4 quad rail since their introduction. I’m still using a 12” C4 on rifle while on a carbine the 7 inch version got replaced only by a 11” CMR. The C4 mlok version was not available when I made the switch but that would be my choice today. Same 2 piece design very easy to install |

Quick question for you giys: Originally, I setlled on just using a standard Colt A2 FS which would P/W’d by Retro Arms with a spacer. However, after looking at the AAC Blackout on my Noveske, I changed my mind. Unfortunately, AAC no longer makes this beautiful and effective FS in the non-suppressor mount version (I emailed them and they stated having no plans on making this version again). Attached File Other than the Vortex, what other effective 3, or 4, prong FS are there. **And preferably something a little shorter than a Vortex/Blackout, if that is even available.** If there is nothing close to this, Ill just go ahead and use the A2. Unless someone has an AAC they would like to sell me? Lol. |
