Hey guys, I just bought another BC from RRA. It is VERY different from previous BC’s I have bought from them in the past. There are angles up front and a punch mark on top. Many surfaces are different. I will post pictures as soon as I figure out how. RRA - any comments? So different, I was worried I received the wrong part. However, the part numbers are the same as the one I bought a year or so ago. Thanks in advance for any comments! |

Is it one of the facetted carriers, with multiple flat sections around the outside diameter?
If so, we've been running that one on and off for several years, alongside our "standard"-looking carriers. They're still 8620 steel and still chrome-lined internally...they just look a little different. Thousands have shipped, and while cosmetically different, performance has been the same as our other carriers. If the look is an issue for you, please contact Customer Service next week (we're technically on a holiday shutdown through Jan 1) or me and we can work something out to take care of you. Steve/RRA |

Yes, your description fits. Is the weight of the carrier the same? (I don't have a scale) Is the bolt still mil spec? (158 I believe) Besides the angles, I noticed a lot of surfaces are different. For instance the bottom 'rails' are not sharp. They are ground down to create a flat rail. I also noticed the flats right below and on either side of the key are smaller. Also, what is the punch mark on the top, towards the front, for? Can you provide a bit explanation so I know what I am working with? Thanks a million. I have to correct myself when I said we've been using them for a few years. It's more like 10 years.
What we have immediately available at any given time will dictate which style you would get. We really don't distinguish between them. We also have the auto version of the faceted version from time to time (same machines make them, so we run them at the beginning or end of semi-carrier batches). The weight difference (facetted bing slightly lighter) is negligible. It won't register on a regular scale...I have to use the scale that we count pins and springs with for it to register, and it's miniscule even then. The flat that the key rides on is just a matter of the angles on the facets. The dimple is actually machined in, not punched, and is an indicator (for us) of which machine center that particular carrier was made on. The bolt is independent of the carrier, as are all of the other parts used in completing a stripped carrier into a complete BCG. The bolt is Carpenter 158. Thanks. Steve/RRA |
