I’ve got a mid 90s Colt that I SBR’d a few years back that serves as a backup suppressor host (AAC M4-2000 can)
I decided to upgrade it recently and realized it’s extremely over gassed. I’m using a Geissele H3/braided wire buffer setup. Knowing the barrel has had around 15k+ through it I decided to get a new barrel. I ordered a Faxon 11.5 with mid length gas in 1/8 twist since I mainly shot 55gr AE and gas block Did I screw up going with mid length gas setup in a 11.5 with heavy buffer...? I need the gun reliable with and without the can.... |

Probably not the best option for what you want to do
If you want to keep the existing Faxon barrel I would get with Clint at Black River Tactical to get a gas tube or gas block insert to get the correct gas drive If you want to start over get an 11.5 carbine gas barrel with a correct sized gas port. .070 on an 11.5 carbine would be about right for mixed use Sionics 11.5 RGP barrel would be my first pick Colt FBI and SOLGW are other solid options with correct post sizes |

I spoke with Faxon today before my order shipped out. They assured me the 11.5 middy was the way to go with numerous customers running it unsurpressed The only side note was that they said I might need to switch to the H2 buffer. Not a huge deal since I own a couple other SBRs that would probably take the H3 reliably |

| I have the 11.5 middy with an SLR adj. gas block, a Griffin Armament hammer comp and a Gemtech HALO-Ti that runs fine both suppressed and unsuppressed. The bolt speed is noticeably slower without the can and recoil is extremely mild. I’d have to go check but I think it has an H1 buffer. I would definitely get an adjustable block for it. But you will notice your rifle is significantly softer shooting with this barrel. |
