| Just got in my brand new Colt M5 this morning from my FFL and noticed several differences in it and every one I’ve seen online so far. My lower is marked “M5 Carbine” instead of just M5. My upper doesn’t have the little place that others do where the patent number went on the 6940. My lower also doesn’t have the stupid third pin deterrent extra material in the lower. Mine is fully cut out like a normal M4. From what I can tell most everything else is the same. Does anyone know the reasons for my differences? My serial number is within 5 digits of the one MAC tested and his was marked M5 and had the extra material in the lower. |

Colt probably took a lower originally intended for military sale and used it for a civilian carbine. Colt put out some weird stuff sometimes… years ago I remember a 6920 sold with AUTO marking sanitized… another one with a FA hammer installed.. I’ve seen the M5 Carbine marking only on early NFA demo guns    |

Also you have a gen1 BHO lever on the right side. Your is definitely an early production sample.

| They have a true free float barrel due to the proprietary upper they use, plus the have the cool bulging where the trigger pins are for whatever reason. But really it’s just Colt’s newest weapon system they released. It’s actually doing very well with contracts around the world thanks to CZ influence. It’s being used in war by Ukraine, used by Russia with ones they’ve picked up, used by Israel in war, and other random militaries around the world like Georgia, Romania, Chile, Thailand, and several others I can’t think of off the top of my head. |
