Here are some images of a new Colt .22LR conversion kit that is available. More should be in stock at www.coltparts.com in July. Each kit consists of one .22LR bolt carrier group assembly and three .22LR magazines. The magazines shown are 15-round but are also available in 10-round and 25-round capacity. As with kits from other manufacturers, you just replace your .223/5.56mm bolt carrier group with the provided .22LR bolt carrier group and use the provided .22LR magazine. They are under $20 iirc Where would I get the sear trip? For full auto in the M16, as well as a sear trip, an anti-bounce weight (ABW) is required. CMMG sells the sear trip and ABW as a package. For M16 full auto .22 shooting I've had a CMMG conversion since 2010 and two dedicated .22 AR uppers (4.5 in. and 9 in.) since 2018. With "hot" ammo in the 9 in. bbl. upper, even with the CMMG ABW, I would get occasional bolt bounce. Using the ~0.75 oz. CMMG ABW as a pattern, I've made some very low cost DIY 1+ oz. ABWs that totally cured the bolt bounce while keeping the operation reliable. The original Atchisson/Ciener ABWs were ~ 1oz. If you search in the AR, Rimfire and Pistol Calber section and the Armory , M16 section you can find some "how to" and related discussions. Looking at the Colts Parts website, the conversion bolts being sold have a gloss black finish with the laser etched Colt logo. IMO, very nice looking. I wish that I could justify buying one. I recently bought one of the New Colt .22LR Conversion Kits. The one I received has the roll type tension pin firing pin retention. I'm pretty sure that it is an earlier/older kit as the plastic on the packaging was rather scuffed (presumably from handling), and the vendor that I bought from is known to be a liquidator. In any case, IMHO (or perhaps due to confirmation bias), the overall appearance of the unit is better than what the pictures depict. I bought the conversion for use in a 1/12 twist 5.56x45 barrel upper, so the accuracy should be reasonably good. Disclaimer: I am not a shill for myself or any other person or vendor or manufacturer.
