Here's a few quick pictures of the NDS-1815 built up. I'm going to try to get to the range this weekend and do a shooting video.

Ignore the mismatch of the rear of the trigger guard to the grip, it's a PSA and is noticeably shorter than my other grips in that area. But I like how slim it is.

I'm pleased with the fit and that our anodizing matches well.

And some HDRP versions

Do you have any prototype pics of your AR-180 style folding stock that you are working on?

Not yet.

I'm going to work on it some more this weekend.

Design-wise I want to make the hinge look similar to the original but with a more durable lockup.

Nice.

Hopefully it can be used on the NDS-18S.  AND others (NDS-1815, AR-180)?????

My purpose with the stock project was always primarily for the NDS-18S.

This has been in the back of my mind for several years. The 1815 adaptability would be a side benefit as there are many option out there already.

Just saw this today. First one I've seen built up like this.

Great for the NDS-18, that is what I need it for. Am using a 180B stock on it now but that requires 3(three) adapters from Stormwerks for folding.

When all three adapters are in place, I end up with a length of pull that is too long.

As far as that video...... I saw it when it came out. I dismissed it as Jokey as soon as I saw the stock and that he had it folding to the wrong side.

Not my favorite either, but not everyone needs or wants their build to be AR-180 retro spec.

what is the detail on that folding stock?

180B?

special attachment of your design?

i have to use 3 adapters and mine ends up too long.

It's something I'm working on. No timetable, and no pricing yet.

If I can't get the butt shells from Armalite I have a similar profile design I can do.

The stock itself on the 180B is not bad but wider than a 180.

The 180 is slim and trim and the 180B is beefy.

I really like a slim style that is more like the 180.

The 180B is a very hollow shell and feels cheap. The 180 is more denser plastic and has a nice feel.

I do also.

But If I can get an off the shelf stock I will use it.

My alternate would be flatter like the original.

Here is something you should make.

Sling loop is already in the supply chain.

All that is needed is a super simple part. Does not even need to be an exact copy. Just a similar product will do.

Designed to fit in existing AR-180B gas block. Just remove the two screws slide in the lug and done.

98% of all AR-180Bs did not have them. Armalite added them after the ban expired. They are very rare.

Demand is fairly good.

I would pay $49 and others would too.

Market them as a limited total number run of, get this, "180". When they are gone they are gone.

Cost to make minus R&D of less than $5 ?????

Armalite may be reluctant to work with you for stock sourcing.

Reason...........Word is they have a reintroduction of the AR-180 in the works.

I wonder if Armalite still has the stamping forms for the AR-180 or were they destroyed/sold off.

Yes, I know. I spoke with Mark Westrom and the guys from SAC/Armalite at the SAR show in early December.

I'm still going to pursue the stock project with or without them.

ETA: the receiver stamping is really the least complex part to make. The trunions, bolts, and carriers are the important parts.

The tooling has been sitting for 12+ years who knows where. Probably rusty by now.

That stock looks pretty sweet. Hopefully you can get them out soon.

My 18 inch upper just showed up today for my nds lower. Setup feels pretty good although I will say my upper to lower fit is very tight.

Yes, the fit is snug.

After your buffer compresses a bit from use I'd say it will loosen up.

The stock may not end up looking exactly like the one in the pics/video.

So far Armalite hasn't been responsive to my inquiries.

If you were not using a not required buffer tube, you would fit just right. Ditch the tube for a perfect fit.

Do not expect tight fit with tube to loosen up.

That 18 upper length looks nice. They were on super sale a month back for mid $600s. I should have bought one.

Brownells is teasing with something new in the BRN-180 line for Shot. I can not wait.

NDS, do not wait for help from Armalite. I am sure your design will be better without any help/materials from them.

Whipped up an alternate buttstock this week.

The Choate butt is quite a bit flatter side-side that the Armalite. Plus it has a definite retro vibe.

Sorry, NO. You missed the mark on this one. Not nice in any way.

That has a Tapco vibe if anything.

Please sir, continue with your development. Please come up with something better.

Is outsourcing a molded stock specific to your specs possible or is your intention to only adapt what is in the market already?

3D print the prototype with the same lines as the AR-180 stock. Send that to molding company. Design it to fit your folding adapter. Spit them out in numbers.

It does not even need a rubber butt pad to reduce costs. Just nice groves in the butt for slippage. Could also be solid poly instead of a shell to reduce costs.

LOL

Of course you don't like it.

And you are missing the point. This is a mock up using parts I already have in hand. It may not be the final iteration. The dual tang gives me options.

We are a small company and can't afford to invest 20k-30k on a proper mold for an accessory product that "might" sell a few hundred units.

That is the exact answer I was expecting.

You should talk with BlackDog machine. That guy makes molds for his stuff quickly and at low cost. Literally seen him change a mold in a few days and change and modify the mold super fast. He may be able to help you. He has worked with many sellers making molded stuff.

Many stuff he molds are intended for just a few hundred units. The guy is very talented.

I bet you heard of him, but he invented the poly AR .22 mag. Made molded products for Lage and others.

Can't hurt to contact them after SHOT.

He might be making "mud molds", but they would not be suitable for a part this large.

@blackdogmachine

Blackdog, what is involved in molding a one piece poly BUTTSTOCK similar to an AR-180 stock.

Read up a few posts and see what we are talking about.

One piece, molded in grooved butt, no internals, just a solid piece of poly. attachment to a folding adapter to be designed by NDS.

Not to be used on an AR-180.

One thing about the sig folding adapter is that it is steel. Aluminum tends to be scratchy or less smooth. Folding the sig is very smooth. Unfolding it requires no manual disengagement other than just pulling on it.

It is the best designed folding adapter out there that attaches direct to a pic.

BUT I agree that it does not look good(best) on this application.

AND it will not interface to the NDS-18S.

Would you happen to have a line on a retro receiver? I would prefer a 100% but I would gladly take a 80%. I know this is a long shot but I have to ask. Thanks…
