I think I just had my first experience with a knock off product. I found a Magpul MS3 QD Sling on Amazon for $40 and it arrived today. I could tell something was not right by the feel of the product, plus the clip is plastic and the QD swivel seems loose. Below are some pics.

Your stitching looks different and the QD swivel should be dark, not silver, unless that is just the pic. If it is fake, it is a very good fake. |

Maybe it is an early production one? Companies do make minor changes to products along the way.

Also, the webbing is supposed to be 1.25 inch wide, the one I bought is 1.1 so I'm very certain what I bought is a fake. | I believe the sling you received is counterfeit, like the one I received from an Amazon vendor last week. I paid $42.56. I also have a regular MS3 (non QD) which I bought from a reputable vendor. Comparing the two led me to suspect that the QD I received from the Amazon vendor was a counterfeit. A helpful representative at Magpul confirmed my concern. He told me that two ways to spot a counterfeit are: 1.) The QD part of a genuine Magpul MS3 QD is Melonite black (not gray/silver like yours and mine), 2.) The metal portion of the Paraclip on a genuine MS3 is steel. Put a magnet against it and it will stick to it. The metal part of a fake is nonmagnetic (it is aluminum according to Magpul customer service agent). I also noticed that the model number on the packaging of the fake I received (and yours, as seen in one of your pictures) states "MAG503". The QD version is actually model "MAG506". I guess the counterfeiting crooks haven't yet had time to print up fake packaging for the new QD version. The vendor I bought it from is processing a refund, but want me to return the counterfeit part at my expense. I am in discussion with them, as I don't believe I should have to pay to return a bogus product. I no longer see on Amazon the listing of the vendor who sold me the counterfeit sling. From here on I'll only be buying from reputable vendors! |

Right, Amazon pages will show the lowest priced seller as the primary one, it doesn't necessarily mean he bought it from Botach. In this case, there are several sellers with the same price, so different people will see different sellers. For me it showed Mounting Solutions Plus. |

I've ordered from Botach before and they sell legit products, as long as its in stock which they didn't. I ended up ordering the sling through Primary Arms and when it arrived, automatically I could tell it was original Magpul. I still have the counterfeit sling, I'm not sure what to do with it yet. |

I think I got a fake one too. I got it for a gift for xmas, and I think the buyer got it from amazon.
I tried the magnet test that optictac posted above. The magnet sticks to the spring from the side, but not to any other area of the clips. Also, there was a sticker over the corner of the upc, when I took it off it said it was the black version. Mine is the fde one. I cant seem to get good closeup pictures of the sling right now, but can someone let me know if it is fake from what I posted above, or the crappy pics?

Based on your photos it looks almost legit. I am comparing mine against yours and I know mine is real since I sell them. Only thing that I'd check is the latch, is it made out of metal or polymer (only can be seen on your first photo)? As mentioned, a magnet test works best. My latch does have a line down the middle, but it's not as defined as yours.. which makes me wonder if it's real. Also that latch you have in the photo looks like it has texture, which would mean it's plastic. My metal one does not have texture, but rather matted black. If it's metal, then I'd say you have a legit one. Here's a photo of mine from a review I did a while back.

At first, I bought the cheapest one off of Amazon from a third party. I ended up canceling it to reorder directly from Amazon for a few dollars more for the peace of mind. These are pics of what checks out to be a genuine QD version in black. The latch is steel and not shiny in color. There was a sticker barcode covering the original barcode in one of the pictures. I peeled it off and placed it side by side in the next pic. Also, on the last picture there is a "09" manufacturing code on the main ring.
