Maybe they have ran the numbers and done the research and decided that they can't improve on the standard metal MP5 magazine, can't make an equally durable and reliable magazine that's more cost effective, maybe a combination of both, and ultimatley decided that it's not worth their time and money to just make a repeat of the 60 year old proven design. I'm not a business man and not affilated with Magpul at all, but I would think that if Magpul beleived that they could improve on the design, make money from the product, and that there was strong enough market for it, they'd produce an MP5 magazine. |

Aside from not being possible in polymer, if it went to the AMag line in metal, maybe? Historically the MP5 realm was reserved for high spenders that did not give a shit about spending 80 bucks each for HK mags. With the recent proliferation of imports and US made clones, it *could* be done. HK factory mags are by far the best. Then KCI are pretty good. Following that its all pretty shitty. MKE mags are very 50/50, ETS are trash tier garbage. Straight MP5 mags from magpul would absolutely fuk. Even though they are all about reliability, so they'd do curved. Tooling up would cost about 1 million bones, or clams, or whatever you call them. Call it 30 bucks each dealer cost, would need to make 33,333 mags to break even. More than that to be profitable and worth the investment. say 100k. Are there THAT many MP5s in the country? They're making pistol Amags in stainless because corrosion resistance. Its ok to be silver when you're hidden in a gun grip. MP5 mags are wholly visible, would need to be blackened somehow. Nitriding sheet steel turns it into glass. So they'd need made of carbon steel and parkerized or blued. I don't think Magpul is into either of those games. Now a polymer / metal hybrid mag would be neat. Polymer external portion with metal bits that do into the receiver like glock factory mags are made, that could be something. |
