| Bought an LAR 8 that was so unreliable that it was useless. The factory replaced it and the magazines. The excuse I was given was that I had purchased older style magazines. It seemed to me the mag well was not cut correctly and was squeezing the rounds out of the magazines. RRA did restore my faith by replacing the rifle and it shoots fine. I assumed reliability of the 5.56 models wouldn't be an issue. I bought two more rifles, a standard direct impingement carbine and the LAR PDS. Recently, I decided to replace the end plates on the three rifles to have an additional attachment point for a sling. The lock nuts were put on so tight that they were impossible to remove. The receiver extensions took a beating on two out of three rifles from the wrench slipping out of the notches in the lock nut. Eventually, I used the wrench on the receiver extensions. The first receiver extension was beat up and scratched to the point that I ordered a new one, the second one came out fine, the third one on the PDS came out but the lock nut would not come off resulting in more dings and scratches. I sent RRA a message about just purchasing the extension and I explained the issue with the lock nuts. I was told I would have to buy the entire stock assembly. In other words, I had to pay out $175.00 to install $35.00 worth of parts. There are plenty of parts available for all the other RRA rifles except the PDS. I think this rifle has become an afterthought. The bottom line is that I cannot recommend the LAR PDS due to lack of parts nor the LAR 8 due to the magazine well design. The lock nuts seem to be a common problem with all RRA rifles. |
| I tried a heat gun, a propane torch and neither of them made any difference whatsoever. I've read of people resorting to taking their RRA's to gunsmiths just to remove the lock nut and the gunsmiths had just as much trouble. I messaged RRA direct regarding the receiver extension for the PDS and someone who goes by BJ told me that it only came as part of the stock assembly. If RRA's customer service reps are no more informed than that then that's another issue I have with them. Lastly, I will be selling all of my RRA's and Springfields due to both companies dealings with anti-gun politicians. |
