Hi all,
I have a LAR-8 Standard Operator which has the fixed Operator A2 butt stock and need to beef up the recoil pad to prevent the pattern from the pad printing on my shoulder. (A t-shirt is not enough when I go to the range.) I like the Operator A2 butt stock that came with the rifle but see no way to replace/add padding. So far RRA does not have any recommendations and it looks like I may have to resort to a different butt stock to get a better recoil pad. If that is what I have to do what do I need to change over to a similar configuration and what stock? I know that the buffer tube is the commercial type and know you need the right buffer and spring to make it reliable. Thanks, |

Have you considered a slip over recool pad, perhaps cut on the non-padded portion to allow clearance forr the cheekrests?
Or maybe one of the recoil pads that you actually wear on your shoulder, as used by shotgunners and high power enthusiasts? Steve/RRA |

Hi Steve thanks for replying.
After sleeping on it I have decided that it would be better to leave well enough alone. I like the LAR-8 as is and don't really want to change a lot. Yes I have considered a slip-on recoil pad. would you be able to suggest one? I have looked at Limb Saver and Kick-EEZ but don't see anything that will fit the 5.125 X 1.125 stock. Thanks, |

I looked, too. Short of some major cutting on theupper most portion of the pad (unfortunately nearest your shoulder) I haven't found a slip overpad that will work. We prototyped something a while back...let me see what ever became fof that project.
In the mean time, one of the shooter-mounted pads might work. You just have to find one that fits you, and could be used with any shoulder-fired rifle or shotgun. Steve/RRA |
