I own a tone of AR’s of all kinds of makes and models. My first Geissele is a 10.5 URG and I love it. That said I have a LOT of gas coming out around the gas block. I mean turning my hand black amount. Pictures don’t do it justice but it’s a lot of carbon gas. Is this normal for Geissele? If so no biggie. Just wanted to make sure my gas block isn’t broken. Thanks    |

I've shot high back pressure suppressors in the past on my 10.3 and it did the same thing. But mine was also due to the gas block not sealing properly even after a few hundred rounds through it like my other guns. Changed out the gas block for a tighter fitting one and the problem went away. I would consider contacting geissele about it and just asking if they can take a look at it. It could be an out of spec gas block just not sealing tight enough. Or clean off the carbon and shoot a heavy range session unsuppressed and see if it's still happening. Then you would know if it's a gas block issue or just the high back pressure suppressor causing this. |

Hello Vic! As others have noted, this could be from multiple things, but we are happy to help narrow down the issue! In terms of the suppressor, you can see carbon exiting the Muzzle Device, especially on a shorter barrel when using traditional suppressors. This can be exasperated by the muzzle device itself though. Certain SF muzzle devices do or do not have Labyrinth Seals. They look like two rings behind the break/prongs that help seal gas in rather than letting it exit out the rear of the MD. Lets take a look at the Muzzle Device model to see if that is present. If it is, we should next take a look at the Gas Block. We seal the gas blocks here at factory during installation, and with this round count we shouldn't see that much gas escaping the block. If it is, let's get more pictures over the gunsmiths of the location that gas is escaping. We can remove the handguard with a Torx bit to get a better look at the gas block and where the carbon is mostly built up. |

@GACS Sorry for the late response. I’ve been slammed at work. The entire upper is Factory Geissele. These are the best shots I could get. Looks like it’s mos likely coming from the bottom of the can and venting out of the handguard judging by the fact most of the carbon is in front gas block

It is good to see you have the seals, and this is a complete upper. Even with the seals you can see some gas exit the rear, it is dramatically improved compared to the previous SF Muzzle Devices. As long as you are seeing complete functionality, we are confident that it looks to be from suppressor use. With that being said, we always stand behind our products, if there are any functional issues or you remove the carbon and start to see the carbon/gas exiting the gas block and not just the 6 o'clock position of the MD, please reach out to us. We always want to make sure we take time to get photos and information in front of our Techs and Gunsmiths. That way you have full confidence in your upper. |
