I noticed that DD offers the M4A1 in both a carbine and Midlength gas lengths. What are the +/- of both? What was the reason behind the change? Thanks, - Max |

Roger that, but I wonder if a middy in a 14.5" barrel offers complications that are perhaps not present in a traditional 16" offering? Often, it seems that the discussion about carbine vs middy is for a 16”, I'm wondering if the calculus changes somewhat in a 14.5"? Thanks, - Max |

DDM4 M4A1 (RIS II Quad Rail) - Carbine Length - Block II Clone(ish) DD4 M4A1 RIII (RIS III M-LOK) - Mid-Length - Decided to use same barrels we provide for the URGI. Both are Good. Middies shoot softer and reduce wear and tear on the gun. |

Pretty sure the M4A1 RIS-II is only carbine, as the gas block needs to sit in the cut-out of the rail. The RIS-III, I believe is mid-length. The RIS-3 line looks rather attractive, but DD should not call this a M4A1 rifle. Just like Geissele should not call their URGI upper receiver group a URGI. Both are commercial variants of a military rifle, but DD and Geissele have move so far beyond what an M4A1 or a URGI is that the nomenclature is worn out. |
