Looking to build a new upper and rebarrel another and am looking at a few different barrel brands. @Green0 - can you give some thoughts into the longevity and accuracy between your 416R Stainless (is the nitriding QPQ I assume?) vs your 4150 Chrome Lined barrels? Are these like 1 MOA for the SS barrels and 1.5 MOA for the 4150? Any estimates on total round count on either type assuming non-abuse? Also any thoughts on the profile(s) chosen for these vs the lighter, tapered 0.625 journaled options? Anything more than heat / POI behavior / assumed suppressor use? Thanks! |

The barrel profile with .625" block is pencil- we don't do pencil anything. Pencil barrels shoot about 1MOA with match ammo if they are really well made for about 3-5 rounds, and then they open up to about double that. They can't take the heat, they cause excessive POI shift with cans attached. M4 profile is too light. Medium contour barrels are really nice compared- a compromise between light and durable. They retain accuracy, they shoot better warm, and they help for reasonably decent POI shift. Obvious heavy barrels will have the least POI shift, but at that point your throwing double weight at a barrel for maybe a 30% increase in accuracy and a drop of POI shift by about 1MOA from around 2. Pencil barrels are 3-4MOA shift territory with cans, unless the cans are stupid light and ti cans can't take any hard use or the baffles just evaporate and you have a tube with a giant bore in the middle. |
