Finally Ordered an M5 (Page 1 of 2)

| AU has them on sale for 1400 and I couldn’t resist. I’ve handle them and wanted one since they came out. Compared to buying a DD upper for the same price (and the fact I prefer Colt when possible), this made sense. I was looking to buy a modern upper and this fits the bill and then some. |

Mine has the "older" right side ambi bolt release as well. I love this rifle and here area a few reasons why I think it is a STEAL for 1400! -Troy sights ~$220 ish bucks -Magpul CTR ~$60 ish bucks -Raptor ~$90 ish bucks These are all top notch add ons and come to 370. 1400-370=1030 So for just over a grand you are getting a well built rifle with great features and then add top dog accessories and here we are. People (internet) seem to be too busy with talking trash or not properly comparing this rifle to others in the same bracket. Very happy and will post a pic when I get it setup

| The sale got me too. Took the day off to go to the FFL to pick it up. When I got there the rifle was still in the original shipping box. We opened it up only to find out that AU sent me a M7 7.62 instead of the M5 5.56. Now it is double the work. Return M7 order M5, back to the FFL for pick up. |

The CM 7.62 is a grossly under rated weapon, as Colts prior piss poor management and non existent marketing kept this from reaching its full potential. Things have improved since CZ bought them out, but the damage was already done. Now everyone is drooling all over the Sig MCX queer when people including the US Army should be eyeballing the M5 and CM7. |

I received mine yesterday and it looks good. The front of the magwell has the casting mark, but is fairly smooth. The trigger is what I expected (Bad)!! super gritty, long travel and about 7.5lbs> . I'll measure it later today....It also has the Gen1 bolt catch. Overall for the price and quality 7.5/10 I'm Happy Update!...The trigger averaged 6lb 15oz so I switched it out with a MBT 3.0lb for now. The rail was tight and the stock secure but the grip was very loose and needed tightening. Everything was staked properly and function was 100%  Final Update!!! I can't believe my rifle passed QC inspection. Although the grip being loose was a minor issue. I also ran a patch down the bore and inspected it with a borescope. There is a large amount of tooling chatter throughout the barrel.....maybe this accounts for the discounted price? New rating 6/10

I might have spoken too soon. I handled it at the LGS when I picked it up but apparently did not finagle it enough to test all of the features, I was only there for about 15 mins. The M5 I received does not have a pin holding the bolt release paddle release on the right side of the receiver, which means that large paddle is just rattling around (honestly I'm not really sure how it's being held into the receiver) I'll call Colt this week and ask them if they want me to RMA the lower to install the pin or whether they are willing to ship one out. I have no idea what size it is. Maybe It was that cheap because these are the Friday afternoon union specials? Not a big deal but that seems like a big oversight in QC. |

Given that our market is not huge I’m sure the 14.5 are ready to be released in the US pretty soon. As for the complete carbines vs spare uppers it may be just a marketing choice… first release complete guns.. then the URG. |

I was at the Camp LeJeune MCX a couple days ago, and someone was buying the M5 they had in stock. It was also missing the roll pin. The sales guy showed it to him, said they contacted Colt about sending out a roll pin and they hadn't responded. It looked the guy was still going to buy it. When I left, he was waiting on his background check. |

I would of been thrilled to get the M7 but thinking about being honest I still would of called AU to see if they wanted it back first. I'm sure they would but if they left it up to me I would of kept it. Between these m5 prices, the commando lower, and the delta elite AU has in stock im tempted to put in an order for 1 or 3 things i don't need.

Currently, the M5 and M7 are primarily sold in overseas markets like Thailand, Ukraine, and Israel. Personally, I wish Colt would focus more on the U.S. market, as many people aren’t even aware of the M7’s existence. Colt Canada’s C20(Monolithic M7) is a rifle that can compete with KAC and LMT in the global military market. It’s an AR-10 that can be converted to multiple calibers. I really think Colt should pay more attention to marketing this.. |
