This may be old news here already as I've been exceptionally busy and haven't been around much lately. News passed to me from the factory: Colt has discontinued the CR product series and is changing its product like back to "LE"...LE6920, LE6940, LE6960, etc. The initial change was with the 6920 in February and progressed to other models in March. There are two product changes as part of the switch. 1) 6-position receiver extension instead of 4-position 2) "M4 Carbine" is returning to the lower receiver in place of the CR-series "Carbine" marking. You will continue to see CR-series products in the market until distribution inventory is consumed. |

| Wow. I have a NIB CR6920 simply marked "Carbine." I guess in years to come some collectors will seek that out as having been a short-lived variant. |

They should not ever really be considered collectible. Maybe not as collectible as the low numbers of the Mexican M4's, but completists will seek them out like the restricted markings. |

All the new ones have selector stops. Still lack appropriate fire selector markings though lol. Roll marking not coming back I can understand. |

With Colt you never really know and nothing is out of the question. |

| I think the cheaper Expanse series was linked to the CR line in buyers minds and harmed it and a switch back to the LE name is a way to try to distance themselves from the Expanse line in any way. |

I began to understand that the body is actually a cage for the soul, rather than a liberator....a vehicle of expression for our souls to interact with the physical dimension, little more.

The Expanse was a great value if you could inspect what you were getting before you bought. There was legit 6920s that shipped in an Expanse box at a steep discount over the “regular” 6920s. There was also the ones that shipped with the socom barrels. On the flip side you got who knows what. That whole project really was a dumpster fire.

Concern that Anties might be making a big deal to argue LE stands for "Law Enforcement" and potentially can devastated Colt's financial situation again post-bankruptcy if they need to defend in court. CR "Civilian Rifle" sounds like a move to weather that storm. I'd rather Colt use SR abbreviation (Sporting Rifle), but that have potential issue with Knight's Armament SR-15/SR-16 tradenames. What prompt Colt to move back to LE now, I don't know. Maybe with time passing and they changed their position that the risk was not as big as they concerned in the first place. |

For a short period of time, between the LE and CR, Colt reintroduced the Sporter series. IIRC something happened 10-15 years ago and forced Colt to move the LE away from civilian sales.. I guess it was a mass shooting.. but I could be wrong. At the end of the day it’s just a prefix change…. |

At the end of the day it’s just a prefix change…. The Sporter series was introduced twice. Once with the Blue Label pre-1994 through early post-94 guns. Then Colt made the Sporter M4 Carbine series at the tail end of the Colt’s Law Enforcement Carbine rollmarked 6920. The Sporter M4 Carbine roll mark was around 2011/2012 irrc, was short lived, and preceded the M4 Carbine rollmark. |

Originally Posted By oxford411: Minus the 6 position, isn’t that what the current OEM rifles had been coming with? Laser engraved “M4 CARBINE”? No sir. The CR-series (CR6920, CR6940, CR6960, CR6762, CR6700A4, etc) all came with a generic 'Carbine' marked lower receivers. A few models still had 'M4 Carbine' but it was limited to the OEM-1/2, LE6920-R and maybe one or two others. |

It was asked above if these “new” lowers have hit the streets yet. I’m saying, won’t these “new” lowers be the same markings as the current OEM-1/2 have been coming with? |

No, because they still had CR prefix even on m4 carbine marked ones; minor detail but yeah I wanted to see if any of the new LE lowers have hit the market |

My LE6920 has a 41xx serial number. Restricted Markings. Old rifle I know, with a low 4 digit serial number. The selector markings on it read “SAFE” - “SEMI”. Not sure when Colt switched to the “FIRE” marking. Just another footnote in the wildly different ways Colt marks their ARs. |
