The demise of journalism marches on. This gun now has direct impingement. It's about time Colt caught onto that idea . A key difference of the Colt IAR from the M-16/M-4 is that the IAR operates via direct gas impingement instead of the traditional gas piston. It also features a one-piece upper receiver and a large heat sink below the barrel to better draw heat out of the barrel during extended periods of firing |

Colt IAR Colt has had the IAR in continuous production since the end of the USMC IAR trials. The IAR has been very successful in foreign use and has seen some use in U.S. law enforcement. You will see more news on the IAR in the near future. It's story is just beginning. |

i think it would do better to have a bipod thats not a silly vert grip. like maybe an m60 bipod to give it stable front end weight for use with a binary trigger. the rails on side may or may not work for the independent side bipod halves that bolt onto pic rails. havent been able to verify yet if that would work. does anyone have pics of a realistic bipod set up on colt iar? i might have to buy an upper i have access to and make it happen. |

I would be interested in seeing the photos as well. If I had to guess it might be the Colt/KAC collaboration that was also submitted to the USMC. Used a KAC handguard and heat-sink that was similar in layout to the more familiar Colt IAR. I really hope they offer an IAR commercially. I missed out on the over runs earlier. |

I’m really surprised the Colt IAR has gained any traction. The handguard is absurdly large and the heat sink seems like an interesting idea on paper, but in practice is giant and adds weight. As a reference piece of a bizarre historical Colt submission, it’s awesome. I’d love to have one. As an actual use item, it seems like a poorly conceived idea that is bizarrely executed. I wish Colt would evolve the design to use a QC barrel to have a true mag fed LAMG. |

Waiting to see how potential releases work out over the next few months before I shoot mine or not. |
