I have a rather extensive Colt rifle (AR) collection...looking to sell it either as a whole or individually. Most likely on GB only because of the reach. Have 50 plus rifles...some are rare. Have a few SP1 rifles...never shot any of them. Just getting started in this process...figured I would ask, looking for tangible, constructive thoughts and opinions. |
| Only a well-funded dealer would buy the whole lot and he'd only offer 70%- or so what they'd sell for on GunBroker. The way to maximize your money is to sell each individually, take lots of pictures and write up a good description. Be sure to include the accessories and boxes in the listings. Have your auctions start at $0.01 with no reserve, have them end on Sunday or Monday night at 9:00pm ET and run them for two weeks. Pace out your listings so that you're not competing with yourself. |

Great points. 70% would be a great deal, I would think they would offer more like 40%. Also, if it is a rare rifle, don't list it when another of the same rare model is listed, you then kill each of the auction potentials. Just saw that happen with two "Serial" marked 1966 SP1s, only a few hundred every made, they would have done better alone. |

| I have a ton of rare wwi and wwii pistols that I bought from my uncle who is one of the best old collectors. His go to is jack the dog gun auctions. The guy handles everything and has a big following and seems to get top dollar even though he uses an old gun auction site. I plan to sell all of mine through him. |

@renov8 I feel you.... I'm in the process of drastically downsizing my collection. I have give @aeyoung first rights on stuff in my collection. However, I will still have a truckload of stuff to move. It is a daunting task. Lol. |

Although I have started the process, I haven't gotten very far. I made up a small set in order to photograph all of the rifles in a semi-consistent manner and have the pics be of a good quality. Its going to take me a bit longer than I expected. The move is the right one...if it is this much work for me to get this done, I can only imagine how my wife would react, knowing nothing about any of it. At times I have reservations about doing this...it took years to put all of these together...most of them I have never shot...just cleaned and hodled. |

If you want good money, wait for the next big anti-gun panic event or democrat administration. There is poor demand right now, prices will reflect that. Only NFA Transferable MGs remain priced high. |

If you have your collection organized and line up someone or a shop to sell them for you, all your heirs have to do is call your designated person. This is the primary business of the FFL who does the majority of my transfers. He gets the call, comes in and scoops everything up and sells mostly on GunBroker. He charges a percentage that includes GunBroker fees and his profit. I like this way of doing things because you can enjoy your collection right up until the afterlife. |

Spoke to a couple different entities about the process...fees could eat up 25% or more. Timing is not the best to sell now...as you said, prices are down. I am working on cataloging and taking good pics of each...spreadsheet the entire lot. |
