I noticed from at least one vendor that the Colt OEM models are listed as being sold as a firearm vs rifle, is that the consensus for all of the OEMs or is this something new? Interesting. My inclination is to think that these are advertised or listed 'firearm' because the states law and age requirement for purchase is 21 years old for 'rifles'. Federal law an 18 years of age can purchase long guns. 21 years for handguns from a federally licensed dealer. The description does say 'rifle'. Maybe Clyde Armory simply recieved them from Colt OEM with no stock. Wouldn't that by definition make them a firearm? Does it matter what is recorded on the federal log or invoice from Colt? Interesting, because that would mean that firearm could legally be a 'pistol' with a stabilizing arm brace on the receiver extension. Eta: You can call Colt with the serial number and find out if it is a 'rifle' or 'firearm'. |

This question has been ongoing since the OEM models came out because they come without a stock, the assumption is no stock = not a rifle, I don't think barrel length comes into play until you pair it with a specific lower (firearm, pistol, SBR, rifle). Whats interesting is up until now I don't think anyone had a firm answer on it, but the fact vendors are specifically listing them as "firearm" makes me wonder if they confirmed they were "not a rifle" all along or if Colt is specifically putting these on the books that way now. Safe bet will be to call Colt, I was just curious if anyone had an answer on it. |
