I'm curious about this bad Colt logo marking on one of my LE6920 SOCOM Lowers. I assume it's laser marked, I've worked with laser makers at work but not sure how you do one this bad. Is the logo marked at colt and the "Property of US Gov" done by the lower supplier? Just curious and appreciate your comments! Photo1 Photo2 Photo3

| Colt has never care too much about cosmetic presentation of their rifle. Probably because they are still working their way out of the old mindset on military contract. But it does bring up a good question on how Colt can get their laser engraving so terrible (even the good one look shallow and cheaply cut) when a $60 PSA lower with military style markings looks deep and clear. |

That seems odd, I actually prefer the laser engraved lowers because the ones I have/have seen are more uniform and even than the rollmarked lowers they were making shortly before they transitioned to laser engraved. All 3 of mine are nice and uniform, and I prefer that they have selector stops vs. the older rollmarked lowers with them milled off. |

Whilst I do love the selector stops not being milled off, I feel that the variation of the rollmarks both give character that a laser marking does not as well as makes it more special than something that a bubba with a shop laser can whip up. On top of those reasons the large majority of GWOT and pre-GWOT rifles have rollmarked lowers so for cloning the lasered lowers just look off. |

Ultimately I think it's a matter of preference rather than overall quality though. Colts have never really been known for cosmetic perfection, even out of the box. |

It's the worst laser marked logo I've seen, my other 4 lowers are all pretty nice. I thought maybe it was rolled but got to be a laser marked. I know when we'd laser mark parts at work we'd to multiple passes on the logo to achieve depth, this looks like what one single pass looks like. I'm going to be down sizzing my collection and will probable be keeping this one as doesn't really bother me, has character. |

It's just that Colt really need to step up its game. Look at how deep the laser engraving Armalite used to have (before ownership change). Colt could do it as the size of Colt logo is about the same, just the matter of willingness to spend the time and money. Well I guess maybe Colt don't care yet since they are selling out all they can build.  |
