I'm hoping someone here may have some advice. I bought a first gen osp Hellcat with the Shield red dot installed and for my age and eyes does this sight stink! It's a great fit and the irons co-witness perfectly but the dot is exceedingly tiny and too dim in close to half the conditions I try it in. It's non adjustable and unless I place the sensor directly under a bright light/sunlight the dot is dim and hard to find on a lighter target. It states one moa which seems to be way too small for close fast defensive use. If it was something more appropriate such as 6 moa I feel it would give it more lighted area which would help I believe. I'm hoping someone may have found something that fits as well, co-witnesses as well, and has a bigger/brighter dot. I would be okay with changing the battery much more often if I could find something more appropriate. And before someone makes the comment "Have you changed the battery?", yes I have. Even bought two different new batteries to try. Thanks! |
| My wife and I both have the Hex Wasp on ours. Got them directly from Springfield. Installed in minutes (write down the serial # first if you plan to register the warranty as it's on the bottom of the sight). We've only had them a short time but no issues. 3.5 mil dot, visible in bright sun at the range yesterday. Can't give you a long term report, but we did not notice any jittering issues with refresh rate that one reviewer noted. |

Thanks for the reply. Bandit, have you shot either of them in bright sunlight from a lightly shaded area? Such as from under an overhang into an open area, One of our outdoor areas is like this and my dot with the Shield disappears. If I'm standing directly in bright sunlight shooting into an open area it is just bright enough but certainly doesn't draw your eye to itself. And I have seen the "jittering" you describe with this sight. I have a Sig Romeo Zero coming to try; 6 moa, manual adjustment (hoping I can set it to a compromise setting and leave it), shake awake and claims, I believe, 10,000 hour battery life. And they're on sale everywhere for not much over $150. |

Mine came with the sig romeo zero. I liked that it allowed the factory sights to still be used. But didn't like that it was all plastic, including the lens. Read it gets scratched up real easily. So I got a Swampfox Sentinel. Red dot, manual brightness, motion sensitive on and off. Very nice. |

Thought I'd drop a quick note- Installed the Sig Romeo last weekend and zeroed it to the irons. Was darn near dead on. Fit was excellent. Dot size, much bigger than the Shield, is great and readily visible. Shot it a few times now and it's held zero. It is polymer but so are many of my guns. I pretty much got past that long ago. The "plastic" lens is mildly concerning but I won't be carrying it in a combat situation. The fact I can still see/use the irons in a pinch takes much of that concern away for me. I'll shoot it at the range for a month or three at our club level matches and depending, it may replace the Xds I've carried the last few years. |
