Sounds good, you gents get straight at it and let me know who and which FFL to send it to.

This shouldn't take long and time is of the essence.

I just posted in the thread that I will let them use my gunbroker account to auction the certificate. If they want to do a raffle I think the proceeds will be lower unless the ticket price is $50-$100. A 100 ticket raffle at $100 per is a very quick $10,000. Also keeps odds reasonable... Either way I will be in on it.

Mark, no ffl needed yet. Get your promotions department to make a "certificate" on official LaRue Tatical letterhead and send it. When whoever wins gets it they will present it to y'all with the ffl info. That's what I've done in the last with other firearm manufacturers.

....IMHO, I agree it doesn't need to be less than $50 but at $100 it cuts down on the number of people who can participate....Anyone with the C note in hand can still buy two tickets and have the same odds, twice the chance of the half-bill.....

Quick poll, should it be a tactical, skinner, or  a bushcraft drop point?  I have all three in diffrent sizes 3/16 thick. Or just a little less.

Its not about lowering the odds so you have a better chance to win, its about helping someone in need.
Many people who would donate twenty for a chance to win and help out are going to pass at 50 or 100 when to them its still a stranger and still a gamble.
I bet 500 tickets at 20 would sell faster and easier than 100 hundred dollar tickets.

...I agree wholeheartedly....Either way, I'm in even if it's just a donation to the cause with no chance of getting anything in return....I was just making a similar point as you, that the lower the 'ticket' cost, the more people can participate....and for those who were thinking the odds at $100 would be better they could buy $100 worth of tickets and have the same odds....(if the total dollar amount of ticket sales remained the same)....

100 bucks is a lot to pay for a long shot.

The appeal of a raffle is the opportunity to pay next to nothing, and maybe get a big prize.

I'm kind of torn on the monetary amount for the tickets.  I prefer the larger amount with less entries because it increases my chances and I think it will be easier and quicker to sell the tickets.  Regardless, if I were going to buy two $100  tickets I would still purchase the same dollar amount if the tickets were less.  The prize is a $2500 rifle?  I think me spending $100 with odds being 1:100 is a good ratio.

I think $50/$100 is a good price for the chance to win the prize.

As to why its taking so long, how do you sell tickets online for a raffle? I'd want something to "prove" I have a numbered ticket.

I think Mark keeping it and shipping it from his place directly to the winner FFL is smart. Why pay shipping twice and less chance of something happening to the gun.

Just my thoughts anyway.

Obviously I should have looked at the value.  I think the higher cost tickets is a better deal then.  Obviously it is up to the actual individuals taking on the responsibility of the raffle.  I'm definitely down for $200  worth of tickets and $280.50 in taxes to win a $3400 rifle.

$50 is a good price point.  Don't want too many tickets, takes too long.  200 will go almost instantly considering the good cause and 125 $3200 FDEs sold out in 5 minutes.

Sorry that it appears to be dragging..however there is a bit more involved then just giving the nod.

We need to establish how the funds will be looked after first...

Unfortunately working here isn't my job...this is all volunteer so that adds to the time it takes to sort things out.

If others want to donate to the raffle then this thread is a great place to post regarding that. It will keep it all in one spot.

Mark

Since you're on amazon already I think it would be easiest for you to "sell" the raffle tickets.

You could do it as a digital down load that way nothing would have to ship.

Easy to track who bought. Assign ticket numbers in order of sales.

You could then put 200 tickets with numbers in a bucket and draw the winner. Winner calls with FFL info.

Does this sound feasible?

It you could do the same thing on your website and set the part number to back order when placed.

You could add 3% to cover the credit card processing that way the total amount could go towards the cause.

If this is doable I would like to "reserve" $200 in tickets however they are priced out since both are my idea.

I like this idea. It would need to be on marks site though. Amazon will charge too much of a fee to the tickets being sold.

Edit:There are two strategies in a raffle. Set a time limit and a low price and sell as many tickets as possible. Set a ticket limit and raffle when the tickets are sold. The first is an unknown odds and requires time to raise the maximum amount. The second is an established odds raffle that can happen in short order.

IMHO, This is about getting the most bang for the buck for CQB-M4. I also gathered that time is of the essence. IMHO, a raffle with a manageable number of tickets to raise a set amount would be fast and efficient. If tickets were offered at $20 we could certainly sell 500 very quickly. That also means the responsible party has to manage a lot more sales and tickets. One or two hundred tickets will sell fast, raise the same amount of money and be far easier to manage.

I have the time to do the the raffle piece of this. But I don't have the technology to do the funds handling. If someone has that technical knowlege and would like me to handle the raffle part I will help out. I will not participate in the raffle if I am helping with it.

Randall, Any knife you donate would be the icing on the cake. I would recommend choosing one and just letting people know, this is the knife...

Just to throw another opinion in, since there isn't nearly enough already.

$50 tickets.
Tickets be sold through the ARFCOM store like Team Ranstad.
1st draw wins a PredatOBR, winner must be in contact with Mark to work out shipping details.
2nd draw gets to pick one of three custom knife options, winner must be in contact with Randall007 to work out details.

People love the chance at more than 1 winner.

Not trying to be Debbie Downer, but this is waaay more complicated than it sounds...

All types of fundraising raffles are considered games of chance, which are tightly regulated - each state sets there own rules, and some states do not allow fundraising raffles at all. Additionally, most states require certified nonprofit status to even conduct a raffle.

For example, in your state:

Now I know people do raffles, but I just wouldn't want one linked to a business that has any effect on my livelihood. All it takes is one participant who gets butthurt about the way the raffle was conducted to cause big problems... and there seems to be more than a fair amount of butthurt on arfcom.

The .gov issue is one that has been selectively enforced for a long time. In this case the prizes are not popular with the current administration. The only way it would become an issue is if someone did get their panties in a bunch and file a complaint. The biggest risk is from the tax side of things. A 1099 is required for any winnings over $600, iirc.

With that said, doing the right thing in this case is more important to me. I would still be in for $200...

The give forward page is already collecting money. Why not let them hold it? Have the next 110 people who donate $100 that show up on the site with their name and amount donated be the list. Have someone compile it, use a random number generator, and you have a winner. Granted, they do charge a high service fee, but it cuts through the beauracracy and gets this finished. 10k pays for the surgery, have 110 people donating covers the surgery and site fee. I have also offered up my Paypal account to hold funds if needed.

I've been working on this since I got home from work.

Talking with JLA and GoatBoy about it.

1. We want people to be able to donate/ purchase tickets as easy as possible.

2. We want the ability to track the donations and do up a list of those that donate.

3. WE want the draw to be as transparent as possible.

4. We want to be able to send Mark the winners contact info so he can ship it to the winners FFL. He is far to busy to get more involved then that.

That all sounds reasonable and efficient. Let us know when and where and we will be in.

That seems the most efficient manner to do this, especially for Mark especially since he is being very generous as usual.

Seems like selling tickets on Arfcom store would be the easiest then. They could do the drawing there.

Time is of the essence, I know but hopefully when the details are worked out there is some type of notice given other than a post in GD saying "GO"......I get the feeling there might be a run on the bank mentality and much damaged feels for those who miss out....

Then they're missing the whole point anyways because if someone's feels are damaged they need a swift reality check. Waiting to see what happens with the riffle in the next few days but donating regardless.

Sigh, the suspense is killing me, how about I make up a special run of 200 CQB-M4 Dillos, sell them for $50 apiece, and we draw from that hat ?
I have been asked to point out that I am LaRue Tactical's owner.

ETA - I'll donate the rifle and making and shipping the custom Dillos and send the $10,000 check out when they are sold.  We random number generator and pull 1 from 200.

That sounds like a great idea.

ETA: However you're losing a ton of money on this. Not only are you donating the rifle, you are also donating 200 dillos, CC fees and whatever taxes you're going to pay on that 10k in sales.

As always, you never cease to amaze.
