Saw a colt 1911 at the gun show today, that I thought might be surplus, but lacked us property stamping. Had what appeared to be a surplus hard slide as the ejection side was unmarked, and the only marking's were a part number on the non ejection port side. Like a dumbass, I didn't grab the part number, but I copied the serial number. Colt lookup shows this as a 1911 government model, produced in 1992. Seller did not remove the slide for inspection, so I'm wondering if anyone could tell me if this is a good buy at $900? Would the internals be series 70/usgi style? And would the slide be correct for the year of production, or did someone throw on a genuine usig slide some time in the past? In addition to the add slide, it has a usgi style short trigger, arched mainspring, and government style grips. Were series 70 guns still made at this time? It's odd that it lacks a billboard slide, so any help is appreciated. Would have liked to take the slide off, if i show back up with cash in hand he may let me inspect, but you never know. |

I'm not sure about the frame, but I don't think that Colt was making a Series 70 pistol in the early '90s. The slide sounds like it may have been one of the replacement slides which are seen on a lot of CMP M1911A1s. Below is a random picture of one I found with a google search. |
