Problem: I bought a single spectrum I^2 laser for a personal gun and didn't have the means to get a rough zero on my laser at night for a few weeks.
Solution: I have a 3D printer, and made a plastic mount to put my PVS14 behind my red dot temporarily so I could get my laser close. I've been using this on a few different guns for the last few months and it works very well to get your laser roughly zeroed. I've also made one that can attach to scope eyepieces as well. That one is in the works. These are obviously NOT made for shooting, just aligning your laser to your red dot. Either way, I figured I would offer it up if people were interested in one. They would be pretty cheap at roughly $10 shipped to your door. I can do absolute cowitness or lower third like pictured. They will obviously wear out eventually going on and off a bunch, but they are pretty cheap. Thoughts? Feedback? Interest?

Design this so it can be installed without removing the rear sight and still require no tools and I think you have a winner.
This needs to be quick and easy to use in the field and in the dark so we can VALIDATE good zeroes without firing shots, not just generate good zeroes from the beginning. I wouldn't consider this a "temporary mount" - that's selling it short. I'm thinking more along the lines of "IR LASER Zero Validation Device". The USGI mount requires too much rail space and requires removing/replacing the J-Arm. It looks like your tool will do the job using only about 5 slots between the optic and the rear sight - Actual rail space without the primary optic hanging over it. |
