| Im putting together another build using a 14.5" Gunner barrel. I have either an H-2 or ST-2 buffer (cant remember which at the moment) and a blue Springco spring. The only part left is the gas block. Im torn- should I go for the adjustable or non-adjustable gas block? Ive never used this barrel before so Im not sure if people think the barrel is overgassed or not? I dont want to end up in a situation where I "tune" the adjustable block to where its the same size as the non-adjustable one. |

Something is needed to tame the gas even if you are shooting un-suppressed. The gas port is claimed to be .081 which is large. I understand why they made that large, people use shit underpowered ammo and they want the barrel to be able to run it, but that is ot optimal for a smooth running rifle IMO If you are running suppressed i would say def go with an adjustable gas block such as SLR. If you are not running suppressed I dont see the need for an adjustable gas block, just something to reduce the port size. Adjustable gas blocks add more parts that can brake and i only use them if neccassary. Black river tactical sells a microtune gas block you can order with one of their gas block inserts. If you get the .076-.078 size that would likely be optimal for most ammo types shooting un-suppressed with an H buffer MicroTune Gas Block This is their gas block fixed port size so it is plug and play. I have one of these in a gun with over 5k rounds and it works flawlessly. They also offer a custom tune gas tube that i am using but only have 1k rounds or so on that rifle. it is working great so far and this option is very easy to use as well. Again if you go this option .076 or .078 port size depending on ammo type. |

I’ve used that exact barrel in 6 different builds. 3 suppressed and 3 unsuppressed. If you plan on suppressing I would do an adjustable block. If not, there is absolutely no need for an adjustable gas block or whatever the hell that other gas block above is. I have a build with a Griffin brake and an H2 and a buddy has one with a Precision Armament AFAB and ST-2. Mine is the fastest shooting gun I own with respect to the ability for fast follow-up shots being in the exact same spot. My buddy’s is, to this day, the softest and flattest shooting AR I've ever shot. Both eject brass at 3:30. I’ve suppressed mine with my Griffin M4 SD-II and it’s over gassed for sure, but still 100% reliable. The 3rd build I did was a buddy’s and he uses a Blackout flash hider. Ejection is 3:30. There is no need for an adjustable gas block unless you’re the type that likes ejection at 5 o’clock just to be able to say to others “look at how well tuned my assault rifle is!” |
| I wouldn’t say it’s big. It’s pretty middle of the road from what I’ve seen. The brass isn’t dented or beaten up. No ejector swipes or ejector dents. While I wouldn’t say it’s perfect, it’s not worth it to me to spend the money and add complexity to a build by adding an adjustable block to these setups. If the OP is looking for perfect tuning, is suppressing, or is setting up a race gun then he absolutely needs the adjustable gas block. For anything else, it’s not worth it to me. |
. I’ll be P/W a SLR Linear Comp on it as well so I don’t think this gun will ever be set up as a suppressor host even when I get out of this miserable state.
