[ARCHIVED THREAD] - AU selling M4 Colt lowers from Colt as lowers. Pistol eligible. UPDATE, AU wrong, they are takeoffs. (Page 5 of 5)

Quoted: The fact colt had very very few lowers leave as colt as non-rifles seemed to imply that you could not easily prove your lower was never a rifle. Quoted: The fact colt had very very few lowers leave as colt as non-rifles seemed to imply that you could not easily prove your lower was never a rifle. If you are ever in the situation where you have to prove something it will be the same for any manufacturer, not just Colt. Most people that will put you in that situation are not gun people. It will most likely be a lawyer proving you were legal. Quoted: So my angle was, what actually exists beyond what AU received to prove it was a rifle. You don’t trust what AU, Brownells or any other retailer says. You call Colt, if you trust the answer that person gives you over the phone, fine. If you don’t you pay the fee and have Colt send a letter to you. This is as good as it gets. Quoted: I guess if there is one lesson, most firearms laws are devoid of logic and aren’t really enforceable at a practical level. Kind of like UBCs... Correct and people can do what they want but claiming you didn’t know is not going to help you when you are in that situation and someone wants to make an example out of you. Whether it is practically enforceable or not, don’t break the law and do your homework first. |

Quoted: I find that difficult to believe when the complete lowers sold by Brownells came in a box marked as Spares. @Tigwelder1971 you are correct. Those lowers sold by Brownells were never classified as rifles. They were factory inventory for use in warranty work, custom shop or other applications as needed. |

Perfect reasoning seeing as how they were recorded. |

Quoted: The info is on the ATF page. Find the reporting link, choose calendar year/category/manufacturer. The counts are all there. Again, the configuration that it left the factory as is what counts in the end. An FFL can dick it up logging on a 4473 transfer, but that doesn't change what it was reported as by the manufacturer. I won't even start the "pistol first= pistol/rifle or rifle first/always a rifle" debate her. Folks get twisted enough. Reported. Not registered. This is how I'm leaning, too. Colt made some extra 14.5" rifles for a export contract. They later decide they don't need them, so they unpin the upper and lower and sell separately. They sure as shit didn't let them leave the factory in that configuration, as they would be SBRs and under the scope of the NFA. So, lowers leave the factory to AU. Lowers get listed on the AU website. Lowers get sent to FFLs. Lowers get transferred to buyers. Nobody except same bean counters inside colt somewhere have any sort of information about which lower has been pinned to an upper and which ones haven't. Everything that happens inside colt's doors is part of the manufacturing process. If they pin together a lower to an upper to test and then pull them apart, that is parts of the manufacturing process. |

SBR's do get sent to FFL's like AU who get them taken off the registry and then part them out. Happens on a regular basis. |

Referring to the SPARES lowers sold by Brownells and the stripped lowers from AU. Not the lowers in the OP here. |

Quoted: My FFL had been out of town for Easter weekend and I finally got a chance to pick up my lower yesterday. The Magpul parts had to go first so I added a generic A2 grip as a placeholder until I dig through some boxes to find an OEM Colt for it. Like others have posted, the left side of the logo is a little faint but markings otherwise look good. I have no plans for it yet but wonder what kind of response I would get from ATF if I submit a Form 1 to make a SBR. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/622/img_1446a-1898303.jpg Overall good looking lower. I have one coming from AU as well which will be submitted on a form 1 also. |

And they are starting to show up on the EE. Ad is pretty deceiving. “VIRGIN” lower |

I saw that post yesterday and assumed it was an AU 6920 lower being it has identical furniture. ![]() Cheers |

Between a PM from me last night and and seeing responses from BRN-180 in the ad before they got deleted, the seller is sticking to his story and trying to make the $250 profit. |

yes he is trying to screw a buyer. i posted in that thread informing a buyer they are not virgin. i got an account warning for doing it. seems screwing a buyer is not important to the moderator. |

The serial number from this take-off 6921 upper is 11 digits off from my recently purchased AU lower. I'd say that's case closed on the original configuration. As an aside I'd be tempted to buy if it was the matching upper. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/897581883 Cheers |

Quoted: And I'm sure there's some sort of paperwork to go along with that, right? Manufacturers mailing sbrs to sots is still under the purview of the NFA. Just normal business. Colt manufacturers an SBR, files a Form 2 (as I recall) and presto, no on the NFA registry, ships to any number of dealers or distributors on. Form 3, and that happens pretty fast. Dealer sells to me on Form 4 and I wait 7 months, or dealer “delists” and asks the ATF to remove from the registry. In fact if dealer sells the lower, dealer technically does not “need” to delist, the lower, by definition is no longer a rifle. On the dealers books he has to move fro Tittle 2 to Title 1 and from rifle to lower and then out the door as a lower. |

I picked up my lower today that I bought from AU. The fit and finish of all parts is excellent. There are not any scratches or blemishes. Part details are an H buffer, hammer marked 'S' and '4', selector has a o (dot) and and 'S' and the receiver extension is 4-position. It was a lower receiver disassembled from a carbine that had Magpul furniture so consequently this lower has a Magpul pistol grip and trigger guard. I will need to get an A2 grip/grip screw, standard trigger guard and a carbine stock. The transaction was smooth with quick shipping. Attached are 5 photos from a batch that I took of the lower. |
Quoted: You can see them in the close up picture. Just machined closer to the receiver than normal or it's the pictures being deceiving. i see them now, almost none. colt is a joke on consistency. they can make the mill perfect on one and screw it on other. sn on that one is tilted, do they not have a damn jig that holds the lower for the engraver. colt quality. |

accurate description and sale of one of these au lowers. no lies about virgin or pistol and reaching almost $1000 with tax and cc. https://www.gunbroker.com/Item/898842984 |

Quoted: Glad I was able to recently snag a legitimate Colt eligible "pistol" lower, from Clyde Armory for $725.00 lol. I would have bought 2 but it was the last of 5 they had. It even came with a SBA 4 brace on it in the white Colt box. Those braces alone retail for $100.00 plus. https://i.imgur.com/5zu279N.jpg Good score! |
