A-TM Products for Ruger Mini-14
(Edited for Accuracy)
At the 2020 SHOT Show, right before the Wuhan Flu, Samson proudly announced the ‘new’ old Law Enforcement side-folding stock for the Mini-14. Popularized in the hands of Hannibal Smith and Sergeant Bosco Albert "B. A." Baracus in the 1980’s TV show ‘The A-Team’, the Ruger LE stock had become a hot commodity retailing for upwards of $400 if one could be found.
Working behind the lines with elements of Ruger’s own A-Team, the plans to resurrect the LE stock had begun back in 2018. With only Ruger’s sole surviving sample to work from, engineers from both organizations met in smoky back rooms collaborated and exchanged information using a series of dead-drops Zoom. The original casting molds, once thought lost to the scrapper, were discovered in an abandoned warehouse in Caracas New Hampshire and brought back to life in Ruger’s casting facility in Newport, NH.
Striving for authenticity, the Ruger wood shop sources old-growth trees sustainable wood suppliers that could have been used to make stocks back during the original 1970-1990 production run. Unlike the originals, which used stained birch, the new version uses walnut because it makes the rifle more accurate. After attempts were made to manufacture the pistol grip from recycled soviet-era Bakelite field radio knobs Rugged and durable Nylon 6 is used for the grip.
Customers should know that this is not a reproduction, but a reintroduction. All major cast parts are shot on the original 50-year-old Ruger molds. The wood is produced in the Ruger wood shop, and the grips are shot on the Ruger injection mold. Samson manufactures the stock arm tube and the smaller pins, screws and catches, and performs the final machining and finishing on the castings. The end product is so authentic to the original, Samson had to add their logo discreetly on the inside of the butt plate to keep black market international arms dealers passing them as originals them from being mistaken for an original.
As with all things Mini-14, these stocks will fit all versions EXCEPT the 180-series, and the 580-series Mini-30’s.
