Magpul, if this truely is different from what you were quoted then I would be pissed. I love your kit, I have spent plenty of cash on it. But to say I am disappointed doesn't begin to discribe my thoughts and feelings.

Me thinks that the arfcom militia would be better served by spending that $3300 on a new PVS-14.

At least you would actually get some new capability after you sold your left kidney...

Only $700 for the plastic stock? Where did the other $2300 go then? I mean seriously, what do the components have to cost in order for this price to come close to making sense?

Damn. No go... even for next year.

Let's see.....twice as expensive as it was quoted to be, can only change to a caliber no one really wants or uses, can't swap to the AK-mag-accepting lowers like originally intended, and without the exact set of options I'd want (16", collapsing stock, non-railed handguard)....

yeah, I'll pass. Someone must've been on some serious dope during the production process if they thought this would wind up being a good idea.
1/18/2010 7:11:04 PM EDT
[#13]
You would think with information being so easily distributed now-a-days the manufacturer would spend some time on message forums. $2,700 isn't easy to come by from the masses. To think that this was going to replace the AR system. I've been proven wrong yet again. What a complete disappointment. Now I'll have to take all of my AR parts off the market and restart my build. Was the Obama administration part of the production process? Half-assed, non-transparent, and earn a Nobel Peace prize for betting on the cum.

Consider this my first internet bitch about a rifle. Two damn years. Two damn years. I'm going to go hop on my failboat that I rode in on now. Later ladies and gents.

Just sent my $$ to Noveske. Was holding out for the offical price of the ACR but WTF? Just picked up 18" SPR upper and free stripped blem lower. Might not look as cool as the wunder rifle would have been but can build one hell of a rifle for $2700.

I hope that tomorrow morning, when they officially unvail the price at shot, that everyone in the crowd boos and throws old rotten produce at the Bushmaster folks. I've waited and saved for two years for this thing, and bushmaster went and fucked it all to hell.  What the hell could cost 3 grand to produce on this thing?  Thank you for fucking us, Bushmaster.  I didn't even get a reach-around!

$3000 is the price for the first year and the 2000 guys that absolutely have to own one.  It'll be cheaper in 2011, and so will the FN SCAR.

Who the fuck wants a 3000 dollar 1/9 plastic rifle over a Colt or LMT? I mean come on 3000? I can 2 LMT`s and ammo for that.

Delusional. Aimed squarely at the "more money than sense" demographic.

Looks like a nice rifle and all, but no thank you at that price. You could maybe, maybe argue for $2K, but that price is either intended for government work or the rifle-as-collector's-item, look-at-me market.

Maybe the SCAR has blazed a new trail in rifle marketing, and rifles will be sold and priced like women's handbags from now on.

Looks like an XCR and building up one or two ARs for me.

Thats what I also thought. If its over $1500.00 Im out.

You'll be getting a better rifle for it. I'm sad about the ACR too, but Cerebrus can break it off in their ass and suck a bag of dicks for that price.

$1500 would have been the high end for me for the "fully accessorised" model. The problem is that Bushmaster makes everyday guns. They are not FN, and the ACR is not an exotic gun. Not only are they not bringing a unique gun to the table, they missed the mark totally on weight and blew the pricing by a factor of two!

Might as well be a million dollars, I can't afford a $3061 .223 carbine.

There is much to be learned from failure: product ideas, material properties, user interface issues, etc. The potential knowledge to be gained from a bad concept or failed execution is virtually endless. Only by pushing the limits of design, materials, and manufacturing techniques through a process of trial and error do we find true innovation. That said, failure for its own sake is foolish, and it is important to learn as much as possible from existing failures so as not to attempt to reinvent the square. This is the meaning behind "fail smart."
http://www.magpul.com/foundations.html

I believe Magpul has learned a lot from the Masada experience and wont let this knowledge go to waste.

They probably figured with the MW2 hype, they could charge higher prices for the demand.  A lot of dumb people out there probably think the ACR is a real military/SF issued rifle after playing the game.

still trying to figure out the "FORCES OF OPPOSITION BOW DOWN!" if I were the opposition, I'd be jumping for joy, haha.

I was explaining to my wife the other day all of the many different reasons (and there are many) why this could be the turning point in small arms history, but it all depended on BM/Rem/MP playing their cards right. but then as pieces of info started drifting out over the last week or so, it just turned into a big pile of failure. they really could have changed the western world if they wanted to, but they only ended up screwing themselves in the ass.

oh, and I still love the AR, so I have nothing to lose.

Christ. I thought this gun would have trouble living up to all the hype surrounding it but this is pretty crazy.

Wasn't the entire point of making a gun out of plastic to keep the cost down?

Seriously, how much does all this plastic cost if the barrels used are the standard AR design with a 1 in 9 twist rate and NO chrome lining?

WTF?
1/18/2010 9:06:21 PM EDT

$3000 for a plastric rifle manufactured by a MEDIOCRE company = FAIL!

The design may be glorious MagPul enlightment, but after all,Crap Master is a LOW TIER AR Manufacturer... and not to mention the 1/9 IMPOSED bbl twist...

Even as much I desire a MASADA, I will not buy an BM ACR at this insane price.

I will boycot all Bushmaster products... even more, I suggest not only a boycot, but eveytime some Koolaid drinker post a pic of an ACR in arfcom, everybody bash him to the point every ACR owner felt ashamed to own an ACR!

Fucking retards!

You thought that a magazine fed, gas piston operated,  5.56mm rifle was going to be  "the turning point in small arms history" and "could have changed the western world?"

Man, I just thought it was a cool looking rifle with capabilities similar to a half-dozen other designs, lots of neat Magpul gadgety-ness and a hoped for price under $1500...

First I'll say I want this rifle and BM did tell me $2700 msrp. I'm waiting to see what shot show pricing and street price is.
And for those who think nobody will buy this rifle, there's people everyday still buying the Scar rifle at 2700+.

Well, it seems I owe LIONHART an apology: he was right.

In my defense, I really didn't think Bushmaster could be this asinine. I've got a little checking around to do before I reach a decision, but $400 more than a SCAR? Screw that noise.

Why is anyone surprised?  When Bushmaster took development rights on the rifle you had to figure they were going to screw the pooch just like they did on the Bushmaster .308.  My only hope is they drop the rifle quickly and Magpul can find a decent company to build it and sell it at a rational price point.
1/19/2010 5:06:41 AM EDT

I was hoping for a more competitive price compared to the Scar.  I guess they figured if FN can sell theirs for that much, they can too.  Maybe in a year or two when the hype dies down....

Not sure what the fuss is.  If you're gonna be an "early adopter" you get to pay the "early adopter" price, and have all the fun that experience entails.

For comparison, DSA lists a base model FAL for $1700.  I'm gonna guess that the manufacturing cost for a FAL is a bit more than the ACR, especially considering the volume of each.

Pricing will remain high while demand exceeds production.  That's the only reasonable way to handle it.

A $2700 list at release leaves a whole lot of room for further discounting.

*shrug*

A well reasoned post, but this pricing will take a chunk out of demand.

I can afford $2700 but I'm not about to pay it for that rifle, especially not with a 1:9 twist.

Yep.  I would have paid $1500 for the fixed stock version and had a brake perm attached.  I wouldn't fork over that kind of cash, even if I were allowed to have all the evil features here in NY.

[#48]
Well, folks at FN are now cackling with delight.

If they're smart, they'll drop the price to around $2000 and clean up.

The ACR has features that I prefer (the non reciprocating charging handle is chief among them), but not at that price, especially not with a 1:9.

This has to be the biggest cluster f*ck of a pricing job that I've ever seen. As others have stated,
they had a chance to come in and do some serious damage if it would have been priced in the $1500
range. At that price law enforcement agencies would have been interested, as would ALOT of
consumers. As it stands now, what department/agency would EVER consider that rifle at 2X the
price of a good AR carbine?

Massive FAIL of EPIC proportions....

Seriously..... WTF?
