Not looking for anyones honey holes, unless you feel like sharing them. But this was only my 2nd year doing a resident elk tag. So I kind of just put in for a bunch of extra stuff over the general elk/deer tag. In addition to the general deer/elk i got a brow tined bull for 270-45. If i read the regs right it is usually cow only with the general. Is the brow tined bull tag i got anything special? Is this district particularly good or heavy pressure? I have been planning to check out that end of the Bitterroot anyway. So I might make a few trips down that way this summer anyway and explore the district as some pre scouting. |

It says right in the regulations that is an unlimited tag. So anyone can get one. It also says you must use your general elk tag with it. Ive never hunted that area but there is a lot of good ground to find elk there. I've seen elk there many times. |

Right after i posted this i googled it and found the obvious answer. Sorry about that. I hunted public last year in another area.and saw some. But no big heards. But they were out moving around in the timber. We had fresh light snow every day so it was educational to see the daily movement paterns in the fresh snow. I am already thinking about doing some more scouting. |

I went out in 321 last year its right next to 270. Off the road that cuts over to the big hole from lost trail pass. We were there opening day and there was a fair amount of guys out there, every pull out up the forest road had a truck in it. Saw elk but didnt get a shot opportunity. Later on in the season my cousin got one in the same unit. Im sure it gets more pressure than more remote areas being an easy one day hunt from the bitteroot. |

The only kind of hunting I've done in that area was for coyotes. We set up our game call then got back to the edge of a road to start calling. While waiting for action I looked down and realized there were ticks crawling toward me on the ground. Found like 12 already on me. Little fuckers were EVERYWHERE! We loaded up, removed every tick we could find and got the fuck out of there. Never been back. It's honestly not too often that I see ticks around here, but there are some places that are often thick with them. South end of Lake Como being one of them. But 270 was the worst I've ever seen, up Rye Creek Rd. |

But i am pushing through tall grass all day. Waders help when its not too hot. |
