Which semiautomatic rifles are legal now. Seems to be different opinions depending on the shop. Some have next to nothing SA in stock, some selling most anything if modified. It’s interesting to say. the least. |

Seems the Springfield M1A Scout Squad is legal. Thoe Socom 16 with fixed barrel should be also. Both have a comp instead of flash suppresor. I really dont see how since both have a threaded barrel. Ruger 10/22 with regular barrel is supposed to be also I would think a Ranch Rifle and M1 Carbine would be with a non-threaded barrel. |

Unfortunately the M1A is specifically named as banned. Otherwise it should pass with a muzzle break. SKS, mini-14 ranch, 10/22, M1 Garand, M1 Carbine should all be god to go with fizzed stock and not flash bidder. The Fixtrot Mike Ranch Rifle and Sig Regulator should be good to go as well, but good luck finding someone to ship it to an FFL, I know PSA wouldn’t. |

I've seen the Regulator on the wall of the Range USA store. It's for sale here. Same store also has M1As. |

OK, so I found where I read it was banned, but that was apparently not the final bill. Now I need to buy an M1A. Attached File |

This is all very helpful. The rifle flow chart at the end of the law states that if it has a detachable magazine AND a shroud that partially or completely encircles the barrel, it’s an assault weapon. That a big catch all, a number rifles being sold at some shops with this combo. Sig Regulator for one. |

They don’t consider a forestock/handguard a shroud (at least if there are moving parts under it?). Not that it makes any sense, but they don’t. |

That appears to be what is happening. Is this distinction spelled out any where in the law or in any post passage ISP publications? |

Originally Posted By LILGUY: That appears to be what is happening. Is this distinction spelled out any where in the law or in any post passage ISP publications? It's on their FAQ https://isp.illinois.gov/Home/AssaultWeapons No. A shroud is not an integral component of the stock, but rather a separate piece. For example, the wooden forestock on a base model Ruger 10/22 does not constitute a shroud. See ISP’s guide. Other examples of forestocks not constituting shrouds would be the base model M1 Carbine, M1 Garand, and Savage, Model 850, assuming they have no other features regulated by PICA and/or have not been modified to include any regulated features or attachments. For additional information regarding the definitions of barrel shroud, flash suppressor, muzzle brake, and stock, please refer to the ISP’s rules. Of course no mention of whether an AR forestock or free-float is a "shroud".....

| You lay a M1 carbine, Mini 14 and M1A on a table together and they are just variations of the same theme. Several ot the ones discussed have what visually look exactly like the shroud pictured on the banned ones in PICA. The ones I have seems appear to also enclose exposed action parts. |

Many shops are selling guns that are suspect. Where are you Illinois FFLs getting the information that guns like the Mini14 are compliant. It has a barrel shroud and removable mag. Same with the M1A. Is there a publication from ISP that provides this information? One shop near me is putting in a large section of wall to highlight their “Illinois legal” semiautomatic rifles. Drive 20 mins to another shop with none of them because they say those guns are prohibited now. I can find nothing in or out side of PICA that exempts the MinI 14 ranch with a removable mag and barrel shroud. |
