Just had a nice day with my son going through a few load ladders at the range yesterday. While there, a group of 3 "young gentlemen" were next to us at the end of the 100yd range where they have spots to offhand, prone, tripod and test out shotgun pattern. There's also steel targets that can be hung in one spot. What caught my attention was they had brought vintage black powder metallic cartridge rifles... about 6 of them. They had historical knowledge of all them and that's what intrigued me the most. I talked to a couple of them while walking the 100yds to check targets and one of them had reloaded all the rounds they were shooting. Another young guy shows up wearing a vintage military shit and hat goes prone to shoot a 1917 era 308. He also had a historical perspective of the rifle, when and where it was used, etc. He started talking to the other group and it was the kinda comradery you expect at the range. Nice to see younger folk with interest in historical firearms. |
| Pretty typical at my local range (Metcalf) in my experience. I think video games of all things have helped keep a lot of the younger generation interested. It's a shame everything is so cost prohibitive, especially for the younger crowd. |
Watching the kids shoot Pieeater's 1919 was great. Nothing warms the heart more than seeing a little kid kneeling in a pile of brass and links.-Pthfndr after the Nov 13th NorCal shoot
