Hello FFLs – Each firearm dealer business location will soon be receiving an official letter from WSP Firearm Background Division providing notification of the background check fee change to $33.00, effective July 1, 2026. This email is to ensure all affected parties are informed of the change to the best of our ability. The Washington State Patrol Budget and Fiscal Services Division conducts periodic rate studies for various activities within the State Patrol. The purpose of these studies is to develop options for setting rates to charge third-party users of Washington State Patrol services. Rate studies are conducted in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, federal cost allocation guidelines, and governmental accounting standards. It is the agency’s intent to also comply with Revised Code of Washington 43.43.580, which states in part: “… The fee must be set at an amount reasonably calculated to cover the direct and indirect costs to the Washington state patrol incurred in administering the firearm background check program. …” Rate studies are normally conducted at the start of each biennium, and it is anticipated that the next study will be conducted in May 2029. For long guns just head out of state. Walked into a store in Idaho and walked out with a bolt gun 10 minutes later. Took the Teslarati from SW WA over. 800 miles but it only cost $79 to charge it round trip and it did 95% of the driving. This increase makes me want to do it again, just because  Store had a few pallets of items that Bob Ferguson would have been disappointed with
