WA ARFCOM Veterans Thread, Take 2. (Page 3 of 5)
I started with these bunch of yahoo's (2/162) back in 1976 as a 11B Moved east after a couple of years and spent some time with some other yahoo's (3/116 ACR).  Went thru redeye training and even got to shoot down a drone at WhiteSands the summer of '79.  Then finally did a year teaching demolitions to this bunch (1249th Eng Batt).

I might as well update mineself. Medically retired from the Army (still waiting to see if everything has been done and is in the pay system and all that), placed on the Permanent Disability Retired List at 100% disabled. Waiting for my VA claim to go through. That's taking quite a while. |

So on permanent disability, that means you won't be able to get a civilian job right? As for the VA, where did you claim? I am assuming the NW regional VA office? If so, it may take from 6 months to a year from what I hear... Do you know if you get backpay if that happens? I got lucky and mine only took 1 month, but that was in Oklahoma... The central region VA is much quicker... I also got lucky and was able to claim severence pay AND start the VA disability payments right away... Base pay of a SSgt x 2 x # of years in service... Very nice severence check! 
If you need help with anything, let me know, I know it was a rough transition... Don't forget to go to the VA hospital and register... Good luck man... |

Yes, that is correct and it is also up to the VA's discretion if you should be able to work or not... I have 50% for PTSD and they said even if I was 100% PTSD I would still be able to work... Like I said, it is all up to the VA if they see you fit for work... I was just unsure of the "permanent" disability portion... |

When I was active duty, infantry was 11 series and arty was 13 series. |

When I went in I was a 67U and they changed all 67- and most 68-series MOSes to 15-series to consolidate and show the army view of Aviation as if not a combat arms brach, at least a direct-combat support branch. All actual flight-crewmembers on the enlisted side have the 'F' suffix added to their MOS, thus I'm a 15U2F... the Army realigned most MOSes back in 2003 if I recall correctly.

U.S. Army Reserves Civil Affairs Specialist (38B - it was 38A when I served) 403rd CA BN Syracuse, NY - 2003-2005 490th CA BN Pasadena, TX - 2005-2006 451st CA BN Knoxville, TN - 2006-2007 Operation Enduring Freedom IV - 450th CA BN Riverdale, MD - Gardez, AFG - September 2004-August 2005 Released for a 4-year ROTC Nursing scholarship in August 2007. Went from a PVT to SPC in 2 years and stayed a SPC for the last 2 years. (Would have gone for E-5 but school had other plans for me.) Can't wait to commission and continue my Army career in the Nurse Corps. Thanks to everyone here for their service!  |
