I was thinking about doing a vow renewal on the beach, I have a few spots we really like. Initial research indicates it's very complicated to legally do this, even if the plan is for 5 minutes. You have to have a permit, and a license, and insurance, and a bunch of other stuff. The only people I've found online charge like $800 for a 15-minute ceremony. At the same time I don't want to come to Hawaii and just disrespect the local laws and culture by doing a "pirate" ceremony. |

Book a room at the PMRF Cottages, coordinate with the base (Navy Region Hawaii) Chaplain and do the renewal of vows either on the beach in front of Shenanigans (on base club) and have catered goodies afterwards, or for seclusion and the best wide open beach: Waiapua’a Bay (formerly known as Majors Bay). Then book a car (no Ubers/Lyft on island) and a flight to LIH. I am almost 100% positive that the Chaplain will be flown over to do your vows. They come over periodically, and in my former 14 years Army, 10 years Army civ experience and now Navy Civilian: Navy CHAPS are the best in the business. Back-Up Plan, our current Commanding Officer Captain (O-6) may be persuaded to administer your vows. He is a good guy and former enlisted Ordnance Man, before becoming a Naval Aviator.
