So we've been to FL twice before where we flew into Orlando for the theme parks and again for a cruise. On our next visit we want to experience the State on a different level and will be pulling our 5x10 overland tent trailer (w/kayaks) behind the Jeep Gladiator. We're coming from the 2A friendly state of OK. Since we do not have AC in this set-up would December be a good time to do this or is there a better month? We would definitely like to make it down to the keys if possible. Any other places we should be considering? Any other friendly advice and suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance

December can be nippy in the north half of the state. October/November are the best fall months down here. If you want to see 'real' Florida, you need to be in the northern third. Somewhere outside of Gainesville. But not in Alachua county. This is a liberal stronghold. Tons of fresh water springs where you can camp, tube, and kayak. The further south you go, the more north you're really going. |

To me - March is the best time of the year! You get all the Spring Greens - and the weather is perfert! suggestions. Make a stop at the Suwannee River Music Park - their is a canoue shuttle service at the back - they will take you any where - day trip on the upper suwannee - if you are game to camp on the river one night...have them take you to white springs and float back the park - about 10 miles - two easy days...if you want there is the woods ferry river camp - enclosed shelters - showers and facilities... If is more summer - go tube the Ichatucknee - winter time - kayak it. make a stop at the Juniper Springs Camp ground - do the Juniper Springs Run - about 9 miles one of the best sports of Florida Go see the silver springs and the silver river. Summer - go see the Bio Lumunius at Titusville - catch a space x launch - you have them going up almost every week. The keys are a lot of fun too... Red |

Any of the months that have an R in them will be good weather. Meaning not the surface of the sun hot. There really is so much to see and do all across the state. Since you're bringing kayaks, I would suggest a few days in Everglades National Park Flamingo Bay. The fishing is outstanding year-round. And you'll 100% see an American crocodile. Then do the keys. Next trip see the rest of the state. How much time do you plan on taking? |
