This is pretty sad to see actually. As a Trump supporter I cannot get behind this. There is a lot of work NCAR does that is vital to everyday Americans. If you've ever flown out of DIA you owe some of your safety to NCAR. NCAR gathers data and allows researchers to use it as they see for. What needs to happen is whoever is in charge of doling out grants needs to be replaced with someone who has common sense. Looneys in Boulder using federal money to study bs (ai detecting transgenders was one) need to be removed. | How much waste is there at NCAR? I've been there. Those guys have a phenomenal retirement plan. Like I had to ask the guy twice if he even understood his plan and how good he had it. I guarantee there's fat there. Planes aren't dropping out of the sky if NCAR cuts 30% of it's staff. |

There's waste for sure. Just like every other business. Let's focus on cutting waste though not useful science. NCAR operates two of the most highly modified aircraft in the world in a way that only they currently can. These data gatherers have literally changed the world and continue to do so. NASA and NOAA can't even get their aviation programs to the level of ncars. Hurricane and typhoon weather prediction, NCAR pioneered. NCAR builds and sells science equipment to the entire world as well. Look up what a dropesonde is. Not all science is waste! Trim the fat for sure but blanket statements like cut 30% don't do that. They just grab easy targets and the bloodsuckers still lurk. |

It's probably Trump's negotiation strategy, by the way. Threaten to shut it down, then settle for a 25% cut. But, NREL, NCAR, NIST.... the amount of waste in those places. Insane. I've been in all of them. It'd sicken anyone in the private sector. They are not good stewards of our tax dollars. The entire population of Boulder would lose their minds if you even suggested a 2% cut in the budget at any of those places. How will we figure out what to cut and not cut? I don't know. Any employee there would say that every penny is needed and the world will end if they have to cut their budget. I have very little sympathy for them, given the decades of waste. |

| Seems like you know all their waste better than anyone, what do you do? Is there waste, yes. But I won't condone the firing of people making an honest living which is probably about 95%+ of NCAR. The amount, of engineers, machinests, mechanics, pilots, ect who work there, many of them ex military don't deserve to be fired for no reason. |

We might have to differ. I don't consider sucking at the .gov teet an honest living. Yes... MANY people there do good work. Who oversees the budget? Who says "need to cut this or that"? Answer: nobody. Ever hear of a retirement plan where the employer matches your contribution at 200%? NCAR does that. Hell, those of us in the private sector are lucky if our employer matches 50%. Friggin NCAR doubles what you put in. Unreal. |
