We will be stepping off from the Bardenay parking lot in Eagle at 1PM on Saturday. If you want to come and check it out, feel free to bring a pack or not. The river was a little high last week, so bring an extra pair of socks and shoes that are waterproof or you don't mind getting wet in case it's covering some of the path again. |

River was up a little higher again, and even after taking a different turn we were still going through ankle/calf deep water, but it was a great day to get out and put some miles down. 7.5 miles in 2:16 with a couple bathroom breaks and deciding which path is probably still passable.

We got back from WFC last night, and I'll write up an AAR today. If anyone is on the fence about going, you have a year to prep. Being able to complete the 12 mile ruck is just the start, and being physically able to continue doing stuff after that with minimal down time is essential. I will happily provide whatever materials, training resources and events needed to get people ready for it, all you gotta do is ask. Land nav is going to be another thing we need to hammer this year and I will be trying to figure out some areas to do that. |

My AAR kind of got pushed to the backburner, and I apologize for that if anyone was waiting for it. BLUF: Staying on top of hydration is a top priority, and having extra water and electrolyte sources is a big deal. Taking care of your feet is the next priority because it's difficult to accomplish much if you can't get there. The ruck seemed less terrible this year due to having done more 8-10 mile rucks this year compared to others, but on the 2nd half my pace seemed to slow a bit coming off the flat section and into the rolling hills. I carried 4L through the ruck, and finished with 1L remaining, and refilled that once at the truck. Quick lunch and then into the next evolution, which involved the entire group navigating to a specified coordinate to set an LP/OP. We moved dirt and cut trees to build a structure with overhead cover. Once that was completed we moved down the creek and were tasked to construct a foot bridge over one of the bends. By this point, many people were slowing down even after having taking breaks and drinking water, and we had one member that had to sit out due to being on the edge of heat exhaustion. I went through my 3L bladder again, and was into my last 1L bottle at this point and requested water to be brought down from camp to allow everyone to refill some of their bottles. Once water bottles were refilled and we started to consolidate gear we came under simulated mortar attack and had a casualty that was treated, and 9 line relayed to base camp. After that we proceeded to another area where opposing forces were supposed to be heading, and while moving to the objective a booby trap was tripped and the simulated casualty had to be put into a skedco and moved towards the LZ for extraction. After securing from the exercise, we went back to camp and got more water and food. Next up was land nav, and I was not feeling it at all. I got to my first point in the dark, but couldn't find the box under night vision so went back to my tent and slept for another 2 hours. I got up and went back out and immediately found the first point where I had been at during the night, but it had been hidden by a branch of a tree. I started to head to the 2nd point but wasn't able to make it to it by my self imposed cutoff time to ensure I was back to the cabin by the drop dead time. Not being able to route plan was a big deal, since we were required to hit points in order which generally meant going back and forth up and down the hills on the property. The obstacle course was more involved in that there was much more mud involved in the creek. We also didn't walk the course before running it, so finding the targets and determining range was from what I remembered from previous years and took some correcting once running the course. Overall I would say this year was more difficult due to the environment, not so much the actual event. It seemed hotter and required me to down much more water. The wet ground during land nav and the obstacle course, plus rain meant my feet stayed wet almost continuously through the event. As much as I hate waterproof boots, I may need to try some out again. Also, I much prefer to sleep in a tent than a hammock. The hammock would cause me to wake up with sore knees and cramped calves compared to a tent that let's me sleep great.   |

This last weekend a few of us made it out to the planned location of the Winter/Mountaineering course and helped out move materials, clear brush, and build a structure in what will become a village type MOUT setup. The intention is to do another in the future to keep building, so if you are interested, please ask. Carpooling can save some money on gas, and more hands makes for light work.

Good writeup. I was there as staff. Gotta admit I was a little grumpy when y'all called back and asked us to bring 5 gal of water but it turned out to be a humanitarian mission. I suspect we had a few cases of incipient trenchfoot. I saw some pretty bad blisters and some feet that looked like they'd been soaked for too long. What saved us was probably the relatively short duration of the event. A few more days and we'd have been carrying folks out. This year it felt like we had things built out enough that Ben could focus on planning challenging missions. We had enough staff so that we were not completely exhausted, and usmc2671's motorbike was invaluable setting and checking land nav points. Everything went pretty much to plan. I think we were a little overzealous on the workload. Thank you to everyone who participated. It's always an adventure, and it's always great catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. On the drive home I was exhausted, and already missing everyone. |

| This Sunday we will be meeting for a ruck, 8AM at Bardenay in Eagle. Expecting 5-7 miles, with temps around 75 degrees and partially cloudy. We generally park on the side of the parking lot near the bank and new coffee and smoothie shop. |

2025 Warfighter Challenge signups are live. If interested, you still have time to prep. Practiscore signup link Is anyone else interested in going, and if so, would rucking Saturdays make it easier for you to meet up? I now have both Saturday and Sundays open, so meeting up either day is feasible for me. RIP and I got out today for a pretty leisurely 8 miler today, only 17:30 pace and had some good discussions on SBRs and NV. |

If anyone is interested in attending an Appleseed event, and learning some history of the American Revolution along with basic marksmanship instruction, the event dates at Parma are now listed. The techniques are usually taught with a basic GI web sling, but can be applicable to others as well. If anyone is interested, feel free to PM me or browse the appleseed website to read about how to prepare for an event.
