| Driving to PA soon, and the Internet search says I can legally transport an AR thru IL under FOPA, however I do not own a hrd case. Will this be a problem if a traffic stop evolves into a search? Just trying to think of worst case scenario. With WI plates I feel like a target is already drawn, and if they ask about firearms and I lie then things go south, but being truthful turns into a search. Or just leave it home? |

Never had an issue being pulled over in/thru chicago. Stick to the "expressways"/tollways, and don't weave in and out at wacky speeds like a lot of driver's you'll see. Ten over is nothing, you'll get passed often, and sometimes by LE. I'd be more worried about getting pulled over by Ohio State Patrol, they make WSP look super friendly.

I've done WIPA many, many times with guns in the car and I've never even had a chance to speed around the Chicago area. It's been stop and go, no matter what time of day or night. Truly the worst part of the trip. Only time I was stopped was on I80 in Ohio and it was the most pleasant, although expensive, traffic stop ever. State trooper did everything he could to get us back on the road ASAP. There was a whole team of them with a spotter in the air, like shooting fish in a barrel. |

I had family up and down the I65 corridor from Indiana to the Gulf of America. I take the I294 around Chicago all the time and have never had a problem (been dong this for 30 yrs. Always armed). Make sure the ammo and the gun are separated. Drive easy and don't do something stupid and you will be fine. |

There is a bit of enforcement on 39 around Rockford and south until you get "up the hill" and over the first big bridge. Beyond that 39 has basically "disabled vehicle or crash" enforcement. Don't drive like a dick and you'll be fine. I also recommend the route 39 to 88 or 80 around Shitcago area. There are too many traffic variables nearer the city that can easily eat up and surpass any gains in time you would get by the shorter route. |

Before I moved up north, I lived not too far from I-80, south west of Shitcago. That's the route we always took to go up to the northwoods. But a disclamier I must mention: that was 35+ years ago that we traveled it regularly (like 12-15 times per year), things may have changed. The last time I took that route was the last time I was across that state line, for my mom's funeral in 1997. |

Wife and I are going to shipashawna, Indiana soon. Last time we did this, we got a late start for this 8 hour drive going around shitcago and wound up camping that night at some random campground in a rural area (we were pulling our camper). This year, need a early start. This and the trip back are the most stressful parts of this trip. We actually came back through Chicago on a no toll road that was just under lake Michigan once. |

| When I am forced to travel through IL to the east, I am a 39 south to 80 east person as well. It usually works the best, and I catch US 20 out of rockford west to go home. It gets rural fast, and routes north can be had as needed. I go 5 over and let the locals whiz by. |
