The article is a bit confusing because first it reports on the 8yr old dying (I remember when this happened in '08), then it gets on to the recent brother's suicide.

The father is being charged with violating the safe storage law because the guns weren't locked up and "Police also learned through the investigation that the couple’s 12-year-old child was home when the incident occurred, according to the affidavit"

This may have been avoidable had he legally transferred the pistol and other firearms to the 28yr old son, as it would have then been the son's responsibility to lock them up.

Awful situation all around, and he has lost two sons.

Considering this is gun hating CT, I wonder if even that would have been enough to avoid catching charges. There is probably some Democrat politician and or anti gun group out there who would make the case that the home owner should be responsible for ensuring all firearms are securely stored, even though the gun is owned by someone else, because that person who owns the firearm(s) is living under the home owners roof.
