Going on a road trip soon and will be there for a day and looking for suggestions or good places to eat. I plan on going to Falls Park and Scheels so far. Anything else I should see when I'm there? |

Morries. Get the cocktail shrimp. My God. Waygu steak if you're feeling the weight of your wallet. Classy joint done up like a 1940's fancy place with Sinatra type music playing. I only get to SF about once every 2 months and pretty much only go there, everything else is just too ....... Sioux Fallsy. Like above, there isn't a whole bunch. I grew up there and we always got the hell out of town to do anything. Races in Brandon, Hartford, Marion. Parks like Palisades in Garretson or Newton Hills or down to Yankton. Not really all that touristy for people to fly into town for, but it's better than town if you're stuck there. SF is a shopping center for everyone in about 60 miles and a big truck stop. The Falls are cool for about an hour, and it's a standard downtown experience. You'll probably spend more time in Scheels than at the Falls. Probably in the bottom 2% of tourist destinations in the USA except when everyone flies in for the pheasant opening weekend. |

I get through there 3 or 4 times a year. Mom, Sis and BIL live there. Dad lived there, but passed in March. Yeah, the Falls aren't fantastic, especially if the water is low. But there's some good historical displays around it. So if you're a history buff, it can be worth the visit. But the ice cream at the Falls Overlook Cafe is righteous and worth a visit. A local dairy makes it (I can't remember the name). I'm told you can get it in some of the local stores. Locally made and really good for the sweet tooth. I always stop in. Around the corner is the Farmers Market. It can be hit or miss. But I've gotten some really good coffee, hot sauces and veggies. Saturdays in season. I don't golf, but my sister and BIL do. I'm told the courses in town are good. Prairie Green was their favorite - but probably because they've had two houses on the course. The Scheels is good. It's smaller than the one down here, but the Sioux Falls staff is way friendlier than the Frisco staff. Taphouse 41 is has a good selection of beers and decent pub grub. All Day Cafe next door has great breakfast and lunch. Tinner's Public House is usually reliable (though noisy). Same with Grille 26 (less noisy, better wines). I really dig the Sheppard's Pie at McNally's Pub. I'm gonna give a shout out to k'Rav'N for being so good to us in the hour right after my father passed. We were a mess and they took really good care of us. There are other good food places, but those are the ones I hit reliably. And as I previously mentioned, there are some good micro breweries in the area. I probably spend more time at Severance than any of the others. If you just need a good bottle shop, hit JJ's on W 57th. I'll warn you that they have "adult" deserts that are damn good - The Boozy Bakery. The beer cooler has tons of great choices. Their wines and whiskey selections are also very good. They've got a good bar and I'm told that their cigar selection is top notch (I don't smoke). Mostly they're good people. It was my dad's go to. |
