Our elected representatives are arriving in Des Moines for another session starting this week! The good news is IFC believes we have a strong majority that supports our 2A Civil rights. Now we just need to raise our voices and remind them we are here and remind them of what we expect! Here are the priorities for IFC this year. Please take time to fill out the action alert to let YOUR representative hear your voice! •Click Here to send your email to your representative: Safer Families Act (provisions of HF654 – passed by the House on April 12, 2023) •Intended to eliminate most of the few remaining “No Guns Zones” in Iowa law oRepeals ban on firearms and ammunition in ?Vehicles on the grounds of correctional facilities ?Vehicles in publicly accessible parking lots operated by state or local government ?Vehicles transporting foster children ?School vehicles transporting pupils (authorized armed staff only) oAllows for permit holders to have a concealed handgun in their vehicle when dropping off or picking up at a school oProhibits state universities and community colleges from banning lawfully possessed weapons in vehicles on their grounds oRepeals the ban on firearms in state-licensed gambling facilities oRepeals the statutes on “manner of conveyance” of long guns in vehicles oProvides for firearm safety Instruction in schools oProvides necessary clean-up of some language in Iowa Code 724 in the wake of the 2021 adoption of permitless carry of weapons Full 2A Rights for Young Adults IFC will again seek to remove statutory restrictions on handguns affecting young adults aged 18-20. 2A/4A Protection in Private Parking Lots IFC will again seek to pass legislation prohibiting employers from disciplining or firing employees who lawfully possess weapons or ammunition in their vehicles on employer-provided parking areas. Gadsden Flag License Plate to Fund 2A Education and Training IFC will seek to create an Iowa Gadsden Flag license plate, with funds devoted to 2A education and training, with first priority to IFC or similar groups Require Iowa Government Agencies to Auction Seized Firearms IFC will seek to require public disposition of seized firearms, rather than have them all go to the state’s crime lab or be destroyed. Remove Conservation Officers’ Authority for Warrantless Searches Investigations on private property must honor Fourth Amendment rights by requiring probable cause, permission or a warrant. Additionally, there are items in the code that need to be removed and the code streamlined. Things like “724.29 Firearm devices. A person who sells or offers for sale a manual or power-driven trigger activating device constructed and designed so that when attached to a firearm increases the rate of fire of the firearm is guilty of an aggravated misdemeanor. 90 Acts, ch 1147, §1” aren’t relevant, weren’t well constructed at the time, and should cease being in code. To quote my dear friend, Richard Rogers: “The state has no constitutional or moral authority to regulate the weapons that the people may possess or carry. The law’s proper purpose is to restrain or punish actual bad (criminal) behavior. The Supreme Court has now repeatedly affirmed that Second Amendment rights are fundamental, not second class, rights. A new resolve to strike down government overreach is spreading across the nation and the world. Since about 2014 I have tried to convince Iowa state and federal legislators that QRLEO ( currently firearms qualified retired law enforcement officers) should be exempt from “Gun Free School Zones” . LEOSA should actually exempt LEO & QRLEO from all “No Carry Zones - OPEN TO THE PUBLIC - for the protection of the Public. I also suggested several ways to fix the existing problem regarding some LE agencies being unwilling to issue the QRLEO ID based solely on Title 18 USC Sec 926C. Defense Consulting Service could be authorized to investigate and issue if a QRLEO ID is not issued by the separating agency within 6 months. This solves the problem for officers with service in more than one state where each state insists the other should issue the ID . A few years back there was publicity regarding allowing parents with CCW to possess their firearm within their vehicle when picking up or dropping off their kids or grandkids at school. This needs to be pushed through. |

Why aren't they coordinating this kind of thing? Not trying to crap on them, but genuinely surprised by lack of effort on what is one of the largest firearm forums on the net. I know Iowa gun owners can be apathetic some times, but I bet most of them aren't even aware of these efforts. |

Right now at 8am on a Sunday there are over 7200 people online on this website in the different forums. I would think it would make sense for Brownell's to have a full time forum person and or team that was actually interactive with post threads in real time. This is about as targeted audience that you can have for their business. Look at some of the sub gun build threads they have had in General Discussions lately. I would be having the team post comments and follow up with links to different products or new products coming available or different build ideas. Hell I would be in my office, building and photographing different builds all day long posting on the different threads giving different options and trying to sell parts or generate interest. Not to mention the political aspect like this thread on spreading the word on topics/laws that affect the industry or customer base as a whole. More I think about it when I retire this could be a great job. I would want the flashing 'Brownell's girl" as my official company avatar though, we would probably have to work through that before I would commit.

Brownell's heads up the National 2A Day & has been a consistent supporter of 2A Day at the Iowa Capitol, which encourages citizens to become active in lobbying their representatives. Brownell's has given ten's of thousands of dollars to SAF, GOA & IFC in recent years. Brownell's donated a good % of their sales during the week of 2A Day to 2A organizations. Brownell's even donated the parts and materials for a very nice item to be auctioned off at the 2A Day PAC Supper this year. And that's just the stuff I know of off the top of my head. I guess what I'm saying is that Brownell's seems to me to be doing their part to advance 2A freedoms for Iowan's and all American's. What we need is for more like minded folks to help do their part as well to protect future generations. |
