October 2024 I will be retiring and leaving Illinois for good. Evansville or Lawrenceburg might be a destination for me. In no particular order I'm looking for a place to shoot, pool hall, dirt track racing, Casino, healthcare, a farmer willing to barter labor for hunting rights, peace and quiet! |

Howdy, I'm in Jennings County..........very small town,pretty quiet around here,not much to do here but not far from Indy,Louisville,Cincinnati. very rural,lots of agriculture,hills and hollers.....very active gun club based in Bartholomew County has ranges ---indoor and out---in Brown County.Shooting complex north of Columbus at Atterbury.......free range at Crosley F&W area near Vernon (Jenning County) anything else,send me an email......be glad to chat Dana |

Come on over, a few of my employees have made the move and aren't ever going back. I live on the western side of southern Indiana but have lived a handful of places. There is a decent long-range range near evansville. I am told there is one near Madison, which isn't too far from Lawrenceburg. There is a great sporting clays range near Corydon. The country gets more scenic and wooded as you move east. What type of shooting do you like to do? |

Gibson County here....Gibson, Pike, Posey, Warrick, Knox counties (all of SW Indiana) are conservative and very firearm friendly. Home prices aren't bad and you are driving distance to Evansville for "big town" shopping. Stay out of Evansville. If you need detailed info then IM me and we can talk. I have lived here 20+ years. |

I do, but one has already graduated and I'm sending her to a private, non-compromised university at considerable cost to me, but it's worth it. The other one is entering high school and he will be going to school here, but he's based as hell, so I don't really worry about him. I've heard that BNL school is a train wreck. |

After I retired from the mil I went back to check the place out. Nope, nope, nope. Moved my sons to Washington County to finish school. I'll not be leaving here. That Airborne guy above is right, it is some beautiful country. Interestingly, there is pretty substantial prior military population here as well. If you do decide to move to LC, you'll not be alone. There are some pretty cool arfcommers living in Bedford that I've linked up with on ham radio. No doubt others scattered around the county. |

born and raised in chicago. three years stationed at Ft. Bragg. i've had way more then enough dumbfuckery in my life! i want to go someplace quiet and be left alone! the only thing i'll miss about chicago is the food. thanks for all the replies. nice range to shoot at dirt track for late model and sprint car racing pool hall casino and decent hospital |

The good ol' boys club here is a big group of old white guys circle jerking and filling each other's wallets (and their friends wallets). Commissioners rejecting requests for Anerican Rescue plan funds for actual useful, beneficial things, then using the funds for things they weren't supposed to be used for jeopardizing those funds. Every time I think I like a local politician he gets elected and proves he's just another scumbag. This year's Sheriff primary is BIG. We finally got a judge that wasn't in the circle jerk club 4ish years ago. 2 years ago we got a prosecutor that isn't in the circle jerk club. He asked the Sheriff's Dept to work with him in stemming the flow of drugs into the county, not just the local distribution. The Sheriff stonewalled him. So he went to the ISP. They were happy to put together an aggressive crimes team in a county that wasn't just going to be a revolving door for drug runners. In 2 years they've been hammering the drugs without the assistance of the Sheriff's Dept. So this year the team lead of the ISP aggressive crimes team (who lives in LC) is running for Sheriff against the chief deputy. I'm personal friends with some retired and ex deputies. Not a single one if them has a good thing to say about the chief deputy. Yet it looks like it's going to be a close race because good ol' boy has friends that don't actually care about law enforcemen, just want to see their buddy elected because he's put in time and "deserves it"... it blows my mind. All that being said, LC is still a good place to live. It's beautiful, the rolling hills are beautiful. The rural landscape in many southern Indiana counties is just phenomenal. |

School board has a new superintendent that is doing well and they're moving in the right direction to correct the mistakes of previous boards. We still have our issues, BPD chief and some officers have been involved in some questionable activities but overall I'm thinking things are going mostly in the right direction. |

A little methbilly-ish depending on how deep in the sticks you get. Can’t go wrong near Columbus or Seymour. |

| My best friend just passed away in Dale. His house and 2.5 acres will be on the market shortly. I will be there starting next Thursday, for a few weeks. I may be naive, but I like the area. His widow is now down in Evansville. She's a doctor, so the medical community is what drew her there. I liked it the few weeks I've stayed there. But, then again, my perspective is skewed. Living in western Washington will make the seventh level of hell look pretty good. |

You want to look in area surrounding Evansville. My only complaint about Evansville is the traffic. I didn't think things were that bad otherwise, but I live an hour West on the wrong side of the river. Haubstadt is close and should fill your racing void. They also have an incredible meat market. There is a 600 yard range, or better, just east of Evansville. Don't remember it's name, but it is on the Great Lakes PRS circuit. Casino on the river and I've heard the hospitals are decent. I don't know about a pool hall. Used to be in the coal mining business. Our mid-west office was in Evansville and I got to visit it often, and as stated live 45-60 min away depending on what part of town. Also spent a fair amount of time around Vincennes and Francisco. The area between Nashville and Columbus is amazing. Once had a family reunion in Nashville. A cousin used to be an executive for Cummins in Columbus so I'm familiar with there as well. Same cousin grew up in Clarksville which is right next to Jeffersonville. I'd avoid both. Good luck. I'll Probably end up in somewhere in SW IN when I retire. Close enough to visit friends and family, far enough my vote for president will count for the first time in my life. |

There are ghetto areas around here, but not everywhere like in Louisville. In Jeffersonville, Clarksville or New Albany you can easily get away from them. We paid 250k for our 4 bedroom, 2.5 bath, 2-car garage full basement on a cul-de-sac. We just sold our comparable house in Louisville for 360k and it needed work- another house that was 'updated' one street over from us (old house) just sold for 420. Right next to our 'nice' neighborhood was a trashy apartment complex with Chrysler 300's blinged out. Point being- you can get a nice house with decent neighbors over here if you look around. If you have school aged kids, the Floyd County school district (New Albany) is supposed to be very good- private school level, that people move to just for that reason. My wife went to Jeff schools, though, and she turned out ok (Clark County, which is Jeff and Clarksville). You'll be ok either way- We were just back across the bridge in Louisville yesterday and there were bums on every corner of every intersection, and we realized we haven't seen that in 2 weeks here... |
