Looks like I will be moving to Milwaukee in January for work. Will be working in the 3rd Ward, Harbor View, Walker's Point area. The plan is to move light and rent for a year. |

My $.02. Milwaukee in general, has a lot of poor neighborhoods and crime, but there are some ok pockets to live in if it's just for a year. The 3rd ward for example, is nicer than a few blocks north, west, or south. There are newer condos and apartments (pricey) going up and some good places to grab dinner. You are close the the Brewers and Bucks stadiums. The problem is when you go a few blocks one way or another, it gets rough quick. The third ward is near one of the largest music venues in the country (Summer Fest). They have festivals throughout the summer and I would not want to be anywhere close on those weekends. You may want to consider parts of Menomonee Falls, Merton, Germantown, Franklin, Muskego, Brookfield, New Berlin, or Waukesha . There is a lot of construction going on in just about every direction from Milwaukee, so commute times can double during rush hour. A bit farther out is West Bend, Mukwonago, Jackson, or Slinger. |

I was born in the City of Milwaukee and lived there for many years off and on. I currently work there but I reside in Waukesha county. The City of Milwaukee used to be a decent place to live in - over 30 years ago. Crime Finding a decent place to park during major events The stupid 7.9% sales tax rate All are some of the reasons not to live there. |
| Living in the 3rd Ward is about as good as you’re going to do downtown. Moved my now-attorney daughter into an apartment on N. Water Street there a few months ago and, while I don’t love it, I feel it’s safe enough for me to sleep at night. She walks to work. I hate big cities, and I hate parking there. There are really crappy parts of town, but most are 1. West of I43/94, and 2. The northwest part of town with the center being Marquette University. These are generalizations, but hold true in most cases. Downtown Milwaukee rocks in the summer. Not so much in the winter. |
