| So my son has a busy summer planned with all kinds of things going on. I asked my daughter what she would like to do. She said a trip to Chicago or mall of America. Coming from Kansas City area Chicago isn’t too bad a drive. She like’s museums, musicals, and of course shopping. Is there a “good” part of town? Any tips on places to stay or things to see? Also places to eat. Looking at all my options to plan a little trip to take my daughter on. Thanks for any info |

Historically the Loop (downtown) has always been fine during the day and mostly fine at night. My impression is that things have gone way down hill just like every other big D run city. Science and Industry museum is closer to some problem areas. I would do that during the day, and probably the earlier the better, and use Uber or taxi. I pretty much don't go up there any more since GF riots and communist DA went soft on crime. But if I had a reason to I would be alert, and take Ubers at night - not walk around. Probably OK to walk around Grant Park, Navy Pier and the immediately adjoining downtown areas. Most of the stuff it sounds like you want to see will be along the lake from the Field Museum up to Navy Pier, and within a few blocks of the lakefront. During the day those areas should be fine as long as you stay alert. That said I'm pretty out of touch because I stopped going there so hopefully some others with more current knowledge will chime in. |
