I just got some reservations for family vacation this year. Cant stay in medora as its all booked up. Evidently presidents are gonna be at the new library opening. We have a 3 and 6 yo. What are your favorite family friendly hikes. Anything that is a dont miss. We are planning on doing north and south and hopefully the ranch. Advice on that? |

The scenic drive in the south unit of the park has access to 4 or 5 hiking trails that would be suitable for a family with a 3 and 6 year old. When you enter the park in Medora, they should have a map to give you that shows the trail head locations. Interstate exit 32 east of Medora has a visitor center that overlooks the painted canyon. At this location there is a Painted Loop Trail that is less than a mile. There is no entry fee at this visitor center. The regular Painted Canyon trail is much longer. You could see bison or wild horses anywhere along the scenic loop drive in the south unit. Some of the horses will come right up to you and let you touch them. I have not spent much time at the North Unit. The draws and canyons seem to be quite a bit deeper than the south unit. I have a feeling the traffic is going to unbelievable anywhere near Medora with Trump being there. The hotels have been booked up for quite some time. We will be driving out from Bismarck for the day. I love spending time in the National Grasslands and Roosevelt park. I hope you have a good time. |
| I am glad to see Amidon has a couple of functioning businesses. Driving through on Highway 85, it doesn't look like much is going on except the Courthouse and a campground. Those cabins look pretty nice. I will certainly consider for my next trip to that part of the state. |

Well cabins of amidon was a hit. Wife and kids were happy with it. They are for sale. Owner lost his wife a few months back and said doing it all himself is too much. Cant blame him. Be is also the bartender and cook for the bunker bar. Trpl was cool. Trnp was beautiful.  The cowboy museum in medora was good. Had a decent wall of lever actions. Medora play was good. Cant say i am a theatre guy but they did a great job. All in all this was a great trip and i rather enjoyed my second time ever in north dakota. The first trip was only 2 days to fly in, beat dickenson state and fly out. |
