That's because those big construction projects USED to be the source of graft for state politicians and bureaucrats to get rich. Once they figured out the money was larger and easier to get grafting from the Homeless Industrial Complex and the Opioid Treatment Industrial Complex, they shifted the majority of the spending there..... |

For example the SR16/I-5 interchange in Tacoma got these huge retention walls that have decorative masonry tiles attached to the face of the wall which have alternating patterns on them. Within a couple years the tiles started falling off. I actually don't have an issue with brutalism in highway design. It's a highway. It's not public art. If you come through that area you can also see where the state and associated contractors miscalculated the junction point between two ends of an overpass, requiring that they laterally extend both sides of the road so that they could complete the junction. So on each side you have a little spur of the roadway that is walled off at 90 degrees. |

I believe their criteria for determining which streams needed improved culverts and bridge replacements was that the natives just made up lists of which streams they used to catch fish in. They also didn't actually get any before/after counts of actual fish. UW did a study to try to frame the improvement based on nothing but sampling DNA out of the water, which isn't indicative of how many fish are actually there, and is dependant on the rate and current state of biological decomposition which can vary based on temperatures and spawning times, sediment levels, etc but the article doesn't bother to say that. Yes those are UW students wearing masks outside in late 2023. Wow https://www.washington.edu/news/2023/10/18/dna-shows-where-washington-culvert-replacements-helped-spawning-salmon/ |

You get DSHS which you have the privilege of paying for all social services for illegals, fuck up and lazy people. Then you get failing schools which is another union grift. Then you get a couple of billion from the climate commitment grift. Basically WAs version of USAID Take away those 3 and about 1/3 of WAs budget is freed up |

Thank's Mancat I was wondering how they determined where to spend millions of $$$$ on dry ditches for fish passage. I live in very west Mason county and they spent $$$$$ on a passage THAT HAS APPOSITELY NO Salmon or Steelhead in it and will never have any in it as it is dry 10 months of the year. When it does have water in it it's about 12". So an Eagle can land in the dry ditch area with salmon DNA on it and that dry ditch is now a spawning body of water. This state always finds way to waste our TAX $$$. It's for our childrens future you know. |

I guess the bright side is he is a devout Socialist, and from Seattle. So maybe just MAYBE a couple of Democrats may vote NO. Not hopeful of this, but there is a chance. Also this targets just businesses right? Why does it not apply to city, county, and the state itself? My FD had to pay all the sales tax on everything we bought, road and sales tax on the diesel fuel. Sales tax on every fire engine, at close to $1 million each that is a chunk of sales tax. So those .gov entities should pay the income tax also |

They are spending nearly $9 billion on the culvert and bridge replacements, with complaints that they will need more. Meanwhile WSDOT says that they only have around $150 million to budget for road maintenance and repair. This all comes down to the state "losing" their court battle with the tribes, but you can almost guarantee the outcome was predetermined and the court case was just a sham. The state has been in bed with the tribes and road contruction companies (Ceccanti, etc) forever, and "losing" the case means that the state gets to skim all of the projects for graft - that's why they're taking the information they're given on face value and tearing up a bunch of perfectly good bridges that pass over streams that are dry half of the year. I would love to see the balance sheets of all the tribal casinos and find out where the money goes. It sure isn't the tribal members. |

I will give them latitude and say everything was legitimate and the court ruling is right, I doubt it, but please play along. $9billion is a bunch of money, I am sure WA did not have a 1 or 2 year time frame to replace the culverts and bridges. So it takes 50 years for those culverts, so what, WA only does a couple a year. |

So it takes 50 years for those culverts, so what, WA only does a couple a year. The court case required that WA replace 400+ culverts by 2030. Supposedly they have a 15 year time frame to pay back the loans, but stated that the costs have already skyrocketed due to inflation, materials cost, etc. and they are now saying that they need to double the cost estimate, which already grew from $1.5 to $3 then $5 billion. Also they apparently failed to factor in the additional cost of temporarily rerouting existing roadways while they perform the work. LOL. Latest I've heard is the state is now forecasting it could go up to $8 or $9 billion by time of completion if their forecasted cost increases are accurate. Whole bunch of articles on it https://jimwalsh.houserepublicans.wa.gov/2024/01/09/washington-states-costly-culvert-catastrophe/ https://washingtonstatestandard.com/2025/03/31/new-5b-plan-to-fund-culvert-removals-unveiled-by-wa-senators/ https://www.kuow.org/stories/new-culverts-in-washington-state-cost-20-million-each-the-dot-needs-to-replace-400-of-them-by-2030 https://www.opb.org/article/2025/04/19/washington-legislature-culvert-removal-plan/ https://jimwalsh.houserepublicans.wa.gov/2023/12/11/rep-jim-walsh-issues-statement-on-wsdots-staggering-cost-increases-a-3-5-to-4-billion-surge-to-remove-fish-migration-barriers/ |
|
The AG likes court, ask for an extension due to the higher costs? Not factoring in the rerouting of traffic, fire those involved, for being stupid. Just ignore the ruling, is the judge going to throw Bobby F. in jail? |

Here in Issaquah there are three tiny little creeks that go under I-90 near the zoo. So small you can jump over them. The State is planning to close I-90 (yes, close) between exits 13 and 15, and spend $289 million to open them up for salmon. Not a typo. Two hundred and eighty nine. Million. |

Thank you for the welcome! Fish passage project Maybe I misread this and it's only surface streets being closed. Just lane closures on i90? What to expect I-90 travelers and users of local roads can expect: Overnight lane reductions. Long-term lane reductions and traffic shifts in both directions of I-90. Detours around closed on- and off-ramps and surface streets. |

When we put the new lanes in going west out of Easton we could only do short term full closures after 7:00, then they were a couple hours max, generally it was one lane full time and limited on two lanes if needed. We did a couple box culverts (fish friendly) above Okanogan on salmon creek and the locals would just be pissed at waste of money on streams that never had salmon. |

I’ve been saying THIS is how socialism is actually introduced or imposed on people; The working middle class is being forced to pay for programs that are aimed at the low (non-working) class…. keeping the middle class from growing out of the middle and perpetually mired and tied to middle working class while the lower class is being brought up (or middle class brought down depending on your perspective) until both middle and lower classes are in the SAME class. All in the same class, getting the same treatments and compensations… but at varying abilities. And the elites, will still be the elitist upper class….. Isn’t that pretty much what every socialist/communist regime looks like? Proletariat and bourgeois… TWO classes. |

The WA SSC has interpreted the Constitution’s definition of “property” to include “income”, but the Constitution also does NOT allow for a progressive style tax. That means you can have an income tax in the state of Washington, but the tax rate has to apply equally to every level. If the rate is 5%, it is 5% on $100 or $1,000,000,000. Even an old dissertation on it from the Washington Attorney General in 1974, Slade Gorton https://www.atg.wa.gov/ago-opinions/constitutionality-income-tax But the Democrats give zero fucks about the Constitution, state or federal, when it gets in their way, as evidenced by ALL the unconstitutional laws they’ve passed (guns, taxes, parental right, property rights, you name it). And 30+ years of packing the WASSC with rubber-stamping leftists means they can do whatever they want. And with 2 Democrats as Senators, we can’t even get the local Federal courts filled with constitutional constructionist as they “blue slip” anyone not a leftist, even in Eastern WA districts. |
|
I know someone who will be impacted who outlined how to get around it. Olympia doesn’t seem to understand the very wealthy have creative resources other people don’t. Either they leverage them or move out of state. When Olympia doesn’t get the revenue they counted on, expect the income threshold to be lowered year after year. Conversely, if they do get the revenue, they’ll still be happy they got a toehold and proceed to lower the threshold year after anyway because ‘it’s working’ 🤦🏼 |

In 15 months, my residency here is done. Its been a good run since 1997, but this state is pinching from every direction. Property, vehicle registration, state and local sales tax, and the fucking levies the retards around me keep approving. Locals don't seem to understand $2.09 per $1000 on assessed home value per year in WA is far from peanuts. I'm excited to start buying cool shit again too, maybe finally get me a semi auto .50bmg to celebrate my departure. Edit: Just saw our dumb fuck state senate passed the "Everyone Income Tax with $1,000,000 Deduction". |

Not seeing any voluntary clear thinking by the majority, so perhaps if enough of them leave or face adversity of their own making via massive wealth exit, it'll be the humble pie serving to right this state. Maybe. |
